Testing the ego-depletion effect in optimized conditions

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2019
The observation that exerting self-control in an initial task impairs subsequent self-control performance in a following task has been used to explain a wide range of phenomena. If evidence for this "ego-depletion" effect was initially believed to be strong, it is now questioned.

Evaluation of Dried Plasma Spot‐Based Quantification of Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein as a Disease‐Associated Biomarker in Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) measured in dried plasma spots versus conventional plasma‐ and serum‐GFAP testing for assessment of disease severity in aquaporin‐4 immunoglobulin G–positive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (AQP4‐IgG+ NMOSD).

Role Selection and Team Performance [PDF]

open access: yes
Team success relies on assigning team members to the right tasks. We use controlled experiments to study how roles are assigned within teams and how this affects team performance.

Self-reports from behind the scenes: Questionable research practices and rates of replication in ego depletion research.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
The strength model of self-control is one of the most influential and well-established models of self-regulation in social psychology. However, recent attempts to replicate the ego depletion effect have sometimes failed.

Self-control performance enhances self-control performance at similar tasks. [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper we claim that the well-established reduction in self-control performance following prior exertion of self-control (the so-called ego depletion effect) is a consequence of people's adaptation to situational demands.

Association Between Neurofilament Light Chain and Real‐World Ambulatory Function in Progressive MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a biomarker of neuroaxonal injury in multiple sclerosis (MS), yet associations with functional outcomes remain unclear. Longitudinal associations between serum NfL (sNfL) and daily step count (STEPS) from wearable devices were assessed in a large international progressive MS cohort.

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

Entropy‐Driven Design of Low‐Melting‐Point Alloys via Compositionally Complex Strategy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional low‐melting‐point alloys (LMPAs) are limited by a narrow compositional space and inherent property trade‐offs. This review presents an entropy‐driven design strategy that overcomes these limitations, ushering in a new class of low‐melting‐point compositionally complex alloys (LMCCAs).

Ego-depletion or mental fatigue? Commentary: “Strong Effort Manipulations Reduce Response Caution: A Preregistered Reinvention of the Ego-Depletion Paradigm”

open access: yes, 2020
Ego-depletion has been one of the most criticized psychological phenomena these past years. New approaches have been proposed to increase its replicability, but often failed, mostly due to inaccurate conceptions that misguided methodological decisions ...

Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.
