Little Egret Egretta garzetta

2005
Abstract Uncertainty about recent population trends in the USA suggests the need for a range-wide survey, which should be readily possible given the conspicuousness of the birds. An action plan for this species within the southeast USA is desirable in that it has shown a tendency for population shifts.

Little Egrets (Egretta Garzetta) and Trace-Metal Contamination in Wetlands of China

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2006
The rapidly developing Asian countries may face threatening environmental contamination, that however remains largely unassessed. We studied persistent trace elements in three wetlands, Poyang Lake, relatively unpolluted, and Tai Lake, and Pearl River Delta, selected as hotspots of pollution in Central China. We adopted as indicator the Little Egret, a

Individual dispersal among colonies of Little EgretsEgretta garzetta

Ibis, 2002
Colonial waterbirds are unusual in that competition for nest‐sites or mates may occur at a scale of a few metres, whereas thousands of birds may overlap in their foraging range at a larger scale. Dispersal has been evaluated for only a few such species, and its adaptive significance remains unclear.

Group foraging in little egrets (Egretta garzetta): From field evidence to experimental investigation

Behavioural Processes, 1990
Results from both field and experimental foraging studies of little egrets (Egretta garzetta) are used to discuss the relationship between flocking, prey density and foraging efficiency. In the field, the latter was affected by group size. The two parameters studied, striking efficiency (percentage of successful pecks) and the number of captures per ...

Isolation of Laribacter hongkongensis from Little Egrets (Egretta garzetta) in Hangzhou, China.

Letters in applied microbiology, 2012
Laribacter hongkongensis is well adapted to diverse freshwater environments and is associated with human community-acquired gastroenteritis and traveller's diarrhoea. The study intended to investigate whether L. hongkongensis could be detected in Little Egrets (Egretta garzetta, a widespread aquatic bird) in Hangzhou, China.A total of 176 faecal ...
