Thermo‐Hydrodynamic Processes of Microparticles in Fractures: A CFD–DEM Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Controlling fracture permeability plays a critical role in subsurface energy applications, particularly in geothermal energy production and enhanced carbon sequestration, where regulating fluid flow is essential. The use of microcapsules has become a promising solution to enhance fracture permeability by providing a controlled sealing ...

External Guide Sequence Effectively Suppresses the Gene Expression and Replication of Herpes Simplex Virus 2

open access: yesMolecules
Ribonuclease P (RNase P) complexed with an external guide sequence (EGS) represents a promising nucleic acid-based gene targeting approach for gene expression knock-down and modulation.

Is There A Post-Human Sexuality? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Philosophical Investigations
Will human sexuality survive the passage to Artificial Intelligence? To answer this question properly, we should first analyze the paradoxical inner structure of sexuality itself, which is never simply binary: it always involves a third element that ...

First genome sequence of a European Alternaria brassicae isolate and genes involved in early development of alternaria leaf spot on Brassica juncea

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This article reports the first genome sequence of a UK Alternaria brassicae isolate. Dual RNA‐sequencing profiling of A. brassicae‐infected Brassica juncea leaves identified differentially expressed genes involved in pathogenicity and host response pathways in moderately resistant Sej‐2 (2) and moderately susceptible Pusa Jaikisan cultivars.

Macroeconomic trends and practice models impacting acute care surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Acute care surgery (ACS) diagnoses are responsible for approximately a quarter of the costs of inpatient care in the US government, and individuals will be responsible for a larger share of the costs of this healthcare as the population ages.

Quantifying spatial associations between effective green spaces and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases by applying volunteered geo-referenced data

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2022
Among the top public health risks, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases cause more than 1 million deaths annually globally. Due to the calming effect of green spaces and their ability to trap air pollutants, urban green spaces are considered have ...

Platform competition and strategic trade‐offs for complementors: Heterogeneous reactions to the entry of a new platform

open access: yesStrategic Management Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Research Summary We study how the entry of a rival platform affects the strategies of the incumbent's complementors. The latter face a trade‐off: While the entry threatens their benefits from indirect network effects, it also allows them to escape intense within‐platform competition.

Boundary effects on radiative processes of two entangled atoms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We analyze radiative processes of a quantum system composed by two identical two-level atoms interacting with a massless scalar field prepared in the vacuum state in the presence of perfect reflecting flat mirrors. We consider that the atoms are prepared

Climate change effects on ecosystem services: Disentangling drivers of mixed responses.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Climate change is a pervasive hazard that impacts the supply and demand of ecosystem goods and services (EGS) that maintain human well-being. A recent review found that the impacts of climate change on EGS are sometimes mixed, posing challenges for ...

The Twofold Limit of Objects: Problematising Timothy Morton’s Rift in Light of Eugenio Trías’s Notion of Limit

open access: yesOpen Philosophy, 2020
The ontological abyss that separates real objects from sensual objects is one of the central principles of Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO), which has its most explicit and profuse modulation in Timothy Morton’s notion of rift.
