Cross section improvements for EGSnrc

Proceedings of the 22nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (Cat. No.00CH37143), 2002
The inclusion of spin effects for electron/positron elastic scattering, binding effects for incoherent photon scattering and atomic relaxations into EGSnrc is described. The effects of these improvements on calculated depth-dose curves and plane-parallel chamber calculations is presented.

Detailed high‐accuracy megavoltage transmission measurements: A sensitive experimental benchmark of EGSnrc

Medical Physics, 2012
Purpose:There are three goals for this study: (a) to perform detailed megavoltage transmission measurements in order to identify the factors that affect the measurement accuracy, (b) to use the measured data as a benchmark for theEGSnrc system in order to identify the computational limiting factors, and (c) to provide data for others to benchmark Monte

Technical Note: An hybrid parallel implementation for EGSnrc Monte Carlo user codes

Medical Physics, 2018
PurposeThe purpose of this study was to present a parallel solution for the EGSnrc Monte Carlo code system combining MPI and OpenMP programming models as an alternative to the provided implementation, based on the use of a batch‐queueing system (BQS).MethodsRelying on a previous implementation based on OpenMP by E. Comparison between EGSnrc, Geant4, MCNP5 and Penelope for mono-energetic electron beams

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2015
A simple geometry is chosen to highlight similarities and differences of current electron transport algorithms implemented in four Monte Carlo codes commonly used in radiation physics. Energy deposited in a water-filled sphere by mono-energetic electron beams was calculated using EGSnrc, Geant4, MCNP5 and Penelope as the radius of the sphere varied ...

An EGSnrc investigation of the correction factor for ion chambers in kilovoltage x rays

Medical Physics, 2006
As part of the standard practice for obtaining consistent ion chamber measurements with cavities open to the surrounding atmosphere, the raw measured response is corrected to the response at a reference temperature and pressure using the standard temperature‐pressure correction factor . In this study, the EGSnrc Monte Carlo code was used to investigate

Consistency evaluation between EGSnrc and Geant4 charged particle transport in an equilibrium magnetic field

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2013
Following the proposal by several groups to integrate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with radiation therapy, much attention has been afforded to examining the impact of strong (on the order of a Tesla) transverse magnetic fields on photon dose distributions.

Comparison between Geant4 and EGSnrc of dosimetric quantities and spectra simulation for electrons beam

2011 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2011
This work aim is to investigate how Geant4 and EGSnrc simulate electrons of energies from 10 keV up to 150 keV. The characterization information is useful for dosimetric interests, especially for thin regions. That way this work presents a comparison of dosimetric quantities, spectra and percentage of electrons transport processes for two different ...

Monte Carlo calculations of electrons impinging on a copper target: A comparison of EGSnrc, Geant4 and MCNP5

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2018
A simple geometry is used to compare several of the available Monte Carlo software codes for radiation transport. EGSnrc, Geant4 and MCNP5 are all used to calculate the photon fluence produced from electrons incident on a copper target. Four energies for the isotropic point source are chosen to simulate the average and maximum emission energies of 32P ...

EGSnrc Monte Carlo calculated dosimetry parameters for 192Ir and 169Yb brachytherapy sources.

Medical physics, 2009
This study presents the results of EGSnrc Monte Carlo calculations of the dose distribution surrounding a high dose rate 169Yb brachytherapy source and 14 high dose rate and pulsed dose rate 192Ir brachytherapy sources. Energy-weighted spectra of emitted photons, a full set of TG-43 dosimetry parameters, along-away dose tables, and a description of the
