Genetic diversity of Amblyomma variegatum (Acari:Ixodidae), the main vector of Ehrlichia ruminantium in Indian Ocean Islands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The hard ticks Amblyomma variegatum is the main vector of Ehrlichia ruminantium which is the pathogen responsible for heartwater or cowdriosis, a disease of ruminants. This tick originates from sub-Saharan Africa and is now widely widespread.

Metagenomic-based Surveillance of Pacific Coast tick Dermacentor occidentalis Identifies Two Novel Bunyaviruses and an Emerging Human Ricksettsial Pathogen. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
An increasing number of emerging tick-borne diseases has been reported in the United States since the 1970s. Using metagenomic next generation sequencing, we detected nucleic acid sequences from 2 novel viruses in the family Bunyaviridae and an emerging ...

Successful Management of Septic Splenitis in an Abyssinian Cat

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
A 3.5‐year‐old female neutered Abyssinian with pyrexia of unknown origin and splenomegaly was diagnosed with septic splenitis. Complete resolution of clinical signs followed splenectomy and antibiotic treatment with pradofloxacin. Septic splenitis, although uncommon, should be considered as a differential diagnosis in patients with splenomegaly and ...

Structure-based vaccines provide protection in a mouse model of ehrlichiosis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Recent advances in bioinformatics have made it possible to predict the B cell and T cell epitopes of antigenic proteins. This has led to design of peptide based vaccines that are more specific, safe, and easy to produce. The obligately intracellular gram

Glycosylation of Homologous Immunodominant Proteins of Ehrlichia chaffeensis and Ehrlichia canis [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 2000
ABSTRACT The glycoprotein genes of Ehrlichia chaffeensis (1,644 bp) and Ehrlichia canis (2,064 bp) encode proteins of 548 to 688 amino acids with predicted molecular masses of only 61 and 73 kDa but with electrophoretic mobilities of 120 kDa (P120) and 140 kDa (P140), respectively ...

A Case of Sepsis Caused by ST80 Multidrug‐Resistant Enterococcus faecium With Concurrent Klebsiella pneumoniae Infection in a Dog

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
An 8‐year‐old dog developed acute respiratory distress that progressed to sepsis and death. Multidrug‐resistant Enterococcus faecium ST80 was isolated from the liver and kidney, while Klebsiella pneumoniae was detected in the lung by PCR. Whole‐genome sequencing showed that the ST80 isolates were genetically identical, suggesting hematogenous spread ...
