Detection of equine herpesvirus types 2 and 5 (EHV-2 and EHV-5) in Przewalski’s wild horses
Archives of Virology, 1999In blood samples of seven captive equid species from four German zoos EHV-1 specific antibodies were detected in 76% and EHV-4 specific antibodies in 73% of the 55 animals, whereas 93% were tested positive for EHV-2 and EHV-5, respectively. In only one blood sample from a Przewalski's wild horse EHV-4 DNA was amplified by PCR.

Two 18-month-old naturally reared ponies were used to investigate the pathogenicity of EHV-2. After dexamethasone treatment, pony 1 was inoculated intranasally with EHV-2 strain T16, which has been isolated from a foal with keratoconjunctivitis superficialis and pony 2 was similarly inoculated with strain LK4 which was originally isolated from a horse ...

Comparative Analysis of Glycoprotein B (gB) of Equine Herpesvirus Type 1 and Type 4 (EHV-1 and EHV-4) in Cellular Tropism and Cell-to-Cell Transmission [PDF]
Glycoprotein B (gB) plays an important role in alphaherpesvirus cellular entry and acts in concert with gD and the gH/gL complex. To evaluate whether functional differences exist between gB1 and gB4, the corresponding genes were exchanged between the two

Zebra Alphaherpesviruses (EHV-1 and EHV-9): Genetic Diversity, Latency and Co-Infections [PDF]
Alphaherpesviruses are highly prevalent in equine populations and co-infections with more than one of these viruses’ strains frequently diagnosed. Lytic replication and latency with subsequent reactivation, along with new episodes of disease, can be ...

Equine herpes virus 2 (EHV-2), a gamma(2)-herpesvirus, is common in horses of all ages. Its role as a primary pathogen is unclear but there is an association between EHV-2, respiratory disease and keratoconjunctivitis. The purpose of this study was to gain more information on the prevalence of EHV-2 DNA in conjunctival swabs from horses with and ...

BALB/c mice were inoculated with 3 EHV-2 low passage isolates. After intranasal inoculation, viral DNA was detected by virus-specific nested PCR in the lung up to day 30 post inoculation and in nasal turbinates till day 7. In trigeminal ganglia, olfactory bulb, brain and lymph nodes viral DNA was randomly shown by PCR. After intraperitoneal inoculation

In contrast to previous findings, the Ab4 isolate of equid herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) was shown to share homology with the G9 isolate of equid herpesvirus-2 (EHV-2). Using Southern blotting and stringent hybridization conditions, a significant proportion of this cross-hybridization was identified by the immediate-early gene-3 (IE-3) probe from herpes ...

Das Interleukin-10- (IL-10-) homologe Gen des equinen Herpesvirus Typ 2 (EHV-2)
2006The aim of this work was to analyse the EHV-2 IL-10 homologue gene with special consideration on its gene expression in vitro and in vivo as well as its primary structure. Thereby it should be clarified if the EHV-2 IL-10 is related to a certain transcript class, if it is connected to a defined stage of infection and if the primary structure of EHV-2 ...

In previous experiments, we have demonstrated that the presence of equine herpesvirus 2 (EHV-2) enhanced plaque formation in cell cultures infected with equine herpesvirus type 1. To determine whether a specific region of the EHV-2 genome is responsible for this effect, we have constructed a library of Bam HI fragments of the EHV-2 genome ligated into ...
