The sporozoites of Eimeria acervulina and E. maxima when injected into the caeca of chickens fail to produce infections. Sporozoites of E. mivati injected into the caeca invade the walls and the life-cycle is completed. These observations are discussed in their relation to the fate of sporozoites injected into the allantois of chick embryos.

Abstract Background South American camelids (SACs) have become increasingly popular in the UK. Consequently, knowledge among veterinary practitioners about diseases in these non‐native species has improved, although gaps remain. The remit of this study was to identify common diseases of SACs based on Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) surveillance ...

Gene expression in chicken reveals correlation with structural genomic features and conserved patterns of transcription in the terrestrial vertebrates [PDF]
The chicken is an important agricultural and avian-model species. A survey of gene expression in a range of different tissues will provide a benchmark for understanding expression levels under normal physiological conditions in birds.

Transgenic selection and underlying mechanisms in apicomplexan parasites
Transgenic selection markers have driven genetic engineering in apicomplexans, enabling precise, iterative experiments. This review discusses mechanistic details of drug selection markers, strategies for marker recycling, and practical considerations for several clinically relevant parasites.

ABSTRACT Salmonella remains one of the most important foodborne pathogens associated with poultry products, despite substantial progress in processing hygiene and antimicrobial interventions. This review critically examines the sources, transmission routes, and control strategies for Salmonella in vertically integrated broiler production systems ...

The ultrastructural development of the oocyst wall of Eimeria maxima
SUMMARYOocyst wall formation in Eimeria maxima was studied during the macrogamete stage in intestinal cells of the chick and in unsporulated oocysts isolated from faeces. The outer of the 2 membranes bounding the mature macrogamete separated from the surface but remained as a veil surrounding the developing oocyst throughout the whole intracellular ...
