Synthesis of Poly(1,4‐anthraquinone) Using Catalytic Amounts of Nickel

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
P14AQ is an excellent battery electrode material, especially for multivalent battery cells. A new synthetic route is presented using stable and easy‐to‐handle dibromobis(triphenylphosphine)nickel(II) (NiBr2(PPh3)2) in catalytic amounts instead of stoichiometric amounts of air‐ and temperature‐sensitive bis(cyclooct‐1,5‐diene)nickel(0) (Ni(COD)2).

Electrolyte Transport Parameters and Interfacial Effects in Calcium Metal Batteries: Analogies and Differences to Magnesium and Lithium Counterparts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mg and Ca metal batteries represent promising alternatives to Li‐based batteries. Due to their position in the periodic table, the metals and their corresponding cations share commonalities, which lead to similarities but also differences in terms of electrolyte transport properties and interfacial processes.

Einstein and the Quantum

open access: yes, 2006
We review here the main contributions of Einstein to the quantum theory. To put them in perspective we first give an account of Physics as it was before him. It is followed by a brief account of the problem of black body radiation which provided the context for Planck to introduce the idea of quantum.
