CO2 Reduction on Copper‐Nitrogen‐Doped Carbon Catalysts Tuned by Pulsed Potential Electrolysis: Effect of Pulse Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that pulsed potential electrolysis significantly improves CO2 reduction performance on copper‐nitrogen doped carbon electrodes. The formation of cationic copper sites and metallic clusters as a function of applied intermittent potential leads to notable selectivity changes compared to potentiostatic reduction.

Three-body encounters in the Galactic centre: the origin of the hypervelocity star SDSS J090745.0+024507

open access: yes, 2005
Hills (1988) predicted that runaway stars could be accelerated to velocities larger than 1000 km/s by dynamical encounters with the supermassive black hole (SMBH) in the Galactic center.

Ionic Control of Microstructure and Lubrication in Charged, Physically Cross‐Linked Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, charged, physically cross‐linked poly(methacrylamide‐co‐methacrylic acid) hydrogels stabilized by a short‐range attractive, long‐range repulsive potential is investigated. This work uncovers how salt addition alters not only swelling, but also the microstructure and dynamics, near‐surface stiffness and charge, and ultimately, its lubricity. Salts

Cosmological Feedback from High-Redshift Dwarf Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We model how repeated supernova explosions in high-redshift dwarf starburst galaxies drive superbubbles and winds out of the galaxies. We compute the efficiencies of metal and mass ejection and energy transport from the galactic potentials, including the

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Lipoprotein(a) and Heart Failure Among Black and White Participants in Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study, Framingham Offspring Study, and Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis: The Pooling Project

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background This study investigated Lp(a) (lipoprotein(a)) levels with heart failure (HF) incidence overall and ejection fraction (EF) subtypes among Black and White participants in a pooled analysis of MESA (Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis), FOS ...

A new method to quantify the effects of baryons on the matter power spectrum

open access: yes, 2015
Future large-scale galaxy surveys have the potential to become leading probes for cosmology provided the influence of baryons on the total mass distribution is understood well enough.
