In this work, trajectories of more than 500 drogued surface drifters launched in the equatorial ocean since 1979 are analyzed by employing the results of a new Lagrangian theory of poleward transport from the Equator forced by the prevailing trade winds.

The effect of caste, mass and colony identity on rescue priorities in the red imported fire ant

Fire ants will rescue brood when the brood becomes trapped underground. We find that rescuers may use odor cues to locate trapped rescue targets. We demonstrate that a single reproductive larva is preferentially rescued over a single worker larva, but that caches of multiple worker larvae receive equal treatment as a single reproductive larva.

Conifer host identity shapes wood‐boring beetle communities more than climate across a latitudinal forest gradient in Quebec (Canada)

Host tree identity and latitude shaped wood‐boring beetle assemblages, with species richness declining northward but community composition varying among regions and hosts. Host tree species influenced beetle communities more strongly than climate; black spruce supported the most species, while eastern hemlock hosted very few.
