Robust multitask feature learning with adaptive Huber regressions
Abstract When data from multiple tasks have outlier contamination, existing multitask learning methods perform less efficiently. To address this issue, we propose a robust multitask feature learning method by combining the adaptive Huber regression tasks with mixed regularization. The robustification parameters can be chosen to adapt to the sample size,

Noisy matrix completion for longitudinal data with subject‐ and time‐specific covariates
Abstract In this article, we consider the imputation of missing responses in a longitudinal dataset via matrix completion. We propose a fixed‐effect, longitudinal, low‐rank model that incorporates both subject‐specific and time‐specific covariates. To solve the optimization problem, a two‐step optimization algorithm is proposed, which provides good ...

Borders and Bridges – Boundaries as an Opportunity [PDF]
The boundary is an ephemeral concept, an imaginary line that marks the terms of a territory. The term boundary is related to the concept of limit that indicates both a sign not to be exceeded and, by extension, a value that conditions a behavior or a ...

Racket sociality: investigating intimidation in North India
This article is an ethnographic investigation into acts of intimidation and threats. Theoretically, it dialogues with ‘racket’ – a key analytical term in the sociology of domination, state‐making, and mafias. The anthropology of power, violence, and crime has paid scant attention to the morphology of threats and the ways interpersonal intimidation ...

Abstract One view of the socialization experienced by professionals in global Big 4 firms suggests that the intensity of socialization engenders a strong and deep‐rooted professional identity. We scrutinize this claim by drawing on interviews with partners who retired from lifelong employment in Big 4 firms in Japan.

Balanced longitudinal data clustering with a copula kernel mixture model
Abstract Many common clustering methods cannot be used for clustering balanced multivariate longitudinal data in cases where the covariance of variables is a function of the time points. In this article, a copula kernel mixture model (CKMM) is proposed for clustering data of this type.
