Photosynthesis in seedling, juvenile and adult Oil Palm (6 months, 1–2 y and >5 y old, respectively) were measured using blue-diode Pulse Amplitude Modulation Fluorometry (PAM).

Lipid metabolism in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis and Elaeis oleifera) protoplasts
Plant Science, 1987Abstract Protoplasts were enzymatically prepared from the mesocarp of two species of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq. and E. oleifera HBK and Cortes) 16–20 weeks after anthesis and from rapidly multiplying embryogenic cultures of E. guineensis. The protoplasts were purified by density gradient centrifugation in 20% (w/v) sucrose.

1989The oil palm, Elaeis guineensis, (Fig. 1) is a monocotyledonous tree belonging to the coccoid group of palms. It grows over a period of years to a height of up to 15 m over a lifetime of 100 years or more. Its productive commercial life is between 20 and 30 years, after which harvesting becomes increasingly difficult, and yields decline slowly.
