Oviducal gland microstructure of Raja miraletus and Dipturus oxyrinchus (Elasmobranchii, Rajidae).

Journal of morphology, 2015
We studied the morphology and histology of the oviducal gland (OG) in the brown ray (Raja miraletus) and the long-nosed skate (Dipturus oxyrinchus) to understand its functional role in the reproductive strategy of these species. The external morphology of the gland was similar in both species, with lateral extensions like those found in other members ...

Phylogenetic relationships of LebachacanthidaeSoler-Gijón 1997 (Xenacanthiformes; Elasmobranchii)

PalZ, 2000
The family Lebachacanthidae was erected for“Orthacanthus” senkenbergianus, a xenacanthiform from the Lower Permian of Lebach (Germany). Recently, the validity of the family has been questioned and the type species,Lebachacanthus senkenbergianus, has been included in the genusOrthacanthusAgassiz 1843, subgenusLebachacanthusSoler-Gijon 1997.

Teeth of Embryos in Lamniform Sharks (Chondrichthyes: Elasmobranchii)

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2002
The dentitions of lamniform sharks possess a unique heterodonty, the lamnoid tooth pattern. However, in embryos, there are ‘embryonic’ and ‘adult’ dentitions. The teeth in the embryonic dentition are peg-like and appear to be attached to the jaw in an acrodont fashion.

Neoselachian (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii) diversity across the Cretaceous–Tertiary boundary

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2004
Abstract Fishes are often thought to have passed through mass extinctions, including the Cretaceous–Tertiary (KT) event, relatively unscathed. We show that neoselachian sharks suffered a major extinction at the K/T boundary. Out of 41 families, 7 became extinct (17±12%). The proportional measure increases at lower taxic levels: 56±10% loss of genera (

Late Jurassic selachians (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii) from southern Germany

Zitteliana Reihe A: Mitteilungen der Bayerischen Staatssammlung fur Palaontologie und Geologie, 2004
The record and taxonomy of Late Jurassic selachians from southern Germany is reviewed and discussed. The conservation lagerstätten of Nusplingen and the Solnhofen area are outstanding because they yielded numerous entire skeletons. Only a few studies of isolated teeth from localities elsewhere contributed to the knowledge of Late Jurassic selachian ...

Renal architecture of the dogfish Scyliorhinus caniculus (Chondrichthyes, Elasmobranchii)

Zoomorphology, 1987
The excretory portion of the opisthonephric kidney of Scyliorhinus caniculus displays a mesial zone that is supplied with venous blood by the renal portal system and with arterial blood from the efferent arterioles of the glomeruli, and a zone of lateral bundles that is irrigated with arterial blood via arterioles in parallel to the afferent arterioles

Central myelin in the shark Scyllium stellare (Elasmobranchii, Selachii).

Zeitschrift fur mikroskopisch-anatomische Forschung, 1983
The central myelin of the phylogenetically ancient shark Scyllium stellare (Elasmobranchii, Selachii) was examined at the electron microscope. The known different chemical compositions of the myelin in higher and lower vertebrates is not associated in the Scyllium with a lack of any basic structural myelin elements, but is probably linked to variations
