A Design Methodology for the Prediction of Squeeze Film Stiffness and Damping Characteristics in Hybrid Journal Bearings under Pulsatile Load Conditions. [PDF]
A theoretical investigation into the prediction and measurement of squeeze film stiffness and damping for double hole entry hybrid journal bearings has been undertaken together with a review of previous work to identify critical bearing parameters ...

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

INVESTIGATION OF OSCILLATIONS IN A SYSTEM WITH NONLINEAR ELASTIC CHARACTERISTICS
Goal of the work is to apply periodic Ateb-functions to investigate dynamic processes of strongly nonlinear systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom. Significance. Practically all problems in mechanics and engineering related to system oscillations, when strictly formulated, are nonlinear, as they are mathematically described by nonlinear ...

Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

Propagation characteristics in distensible tubes containing a visco-elastic fluid [PDF]
The propagation characteristics of a visco-elastic fluid in a distensible tube tube are studied. The linear visco-elastic nature of the fluid is described by a complex coefficient of viscosity η*.

This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.
