Influence of Foundation Rigidity on the Structural Response of Mat Foundation

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
A mat is a type of shallow foundation that is appropriate for structures supported on soil having relatively low bearing capacity or excessive settlement.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Overall Buckling and Ultimate Load of an H-Section Steel Member Under Combined Compression and Bending

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering, 2018
This paper presents a theoretical method and FEM to study the overall buckling of an H-section steel member with narrow flanges. The theoretical study aims to elaborate the significant parameters involved.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

On Bifurcation of Thin Corrugated Shell with an Elastic Filler under Action of Non-Uniform Hydrostatic Pressure

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов, 2008
The problem of buckling of a thin corrugated shell with elastic filler under action of the non-uniform hydrostatic pressure is considered. The influence of the elastic filler is taken into account as the additional pressure within the framework of ...

Dynamic Finite Element Analysis of Bending-Torsion Coupled Beams Subjected to Combined Axial Load and End Moment

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2015
The dynamic analysis of prestressed, bending-torsion coupled beams is revisited. The axially loaded beam is assumed to be slender, isotropic, homogeneous, and linearly elastic, exhibiting coupled flexural-torsional displacement caused by the end moment ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Shear-Compression Failure Condition of Key Strata Under Elastic Support During Periodic Breakage

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The shear-compression failure of key strata leads to stair-step collapse and severe mine pressure, posing significant safety risks in coal mines. Existing theories fail to account for the boundary conditions and breaking sizes of key strata, making ...
