A discrete framework to find the optimal matching between manifold-valued curves
The aim of this paper is to find an optimal matching between manifold-valued curves, and thereby adequately compare their shapes, seen as equivalent classes with respect to the action of reparameterization.

Evaluation of Three Constitutive Models for the Prediction of Hastelloy X Elevated Temperature Cyclic Response [PDF]
The approach for the method development assumes that, for a thermally loaded structure, the overall strain history is defined by linear elastic analysis.

Some minimization problems for planar networks of elastic curve
In this note we announce some results that will appear in [6] (joint work with also Matteo Novaga) on the minimization of the functional $F(\Gamma)=\int_\Gamma k^2+1\,\mathrm{d}s$, where $\Gamma$ is a network of three curves with fixed equal angles at ...

Living materials such as membranes, cytoskeletal assemblies, cell collectives and tissues can often be described as active solids -- materials that are energized from within, with elastic response about a well defined reference configuration. These materials often live in complex and curved manifolds, yet most descriptions of active solids are flat ...

Elastic curves and phase transitions [PDF]
This paper is devoted to classical variational problems for planar elastic curves of clamped endpoints, so-called Euler's elastica problem. We investigate a straightening limit that means enlarging the distance of the endpoints, and obtain several new results concerning properties of least energy solutions.

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Chromatin: a tunable spring at work inside chromosomes
This paper focuses on mechanical aspects of chromatin biological functioning. Within a basic geometric modeling of the chromatin assembly, we give for the first time the complete set of elastic constants (twist and bend persistence lengths, stretch ...
