Unfolding a Curved Elastic Sheet

A curved elastic sheet is flattened on a rigid flat plate by vertical end forces. The problem is governed by a non-dimensional parameter, B, which signifies the relative importance of flexural rigidity to the applied force and the natural radius.

Horizontally Curved Plates on Elastic Foundations

An analytical solution is presented for the analysis of horizontally curved (or sector) plates on elastic foundations. Circular concrete pavements of highways may be analyzed by this method. Plates with different boundary conditions and subjected to various types of loadings can be treated by the proposed method.

Elastic Properties of Curved Tubes

Abstract A theory of flexibility of pipe bends perpendicular to the plane of the bend has been established. Experimental results are given in this paper verifying the derived bending equations. Results show the pipes to be more flexible than expected from the application of the “rod” theory.

Theories of elastic slender curved rods

The linear and nonlinear theories of elastic slender curved rods are formulated in a systematic manner. Equations of equilibrium for stress resultants and moments are derived. The generalized strains are defined based on the principle of virtual work. Constitutive equations corresponding to small strains are obtained.
