On the elasticity of residential energy consumption

IISA 2014, The 5th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems and Applications, 2014
The current paper discusses the analysis of the results that emerged from a field study conducted in two consecutive years, aiming at the assessment of the economic recession's impact on the consumers' behaviour regarding energy consumption and space heating.

European energy elasticities

Energy Policy, 1976
Abstract It has become a commonplace that growth of energy demand and GNP have gone hand in hand. In examining the energy elasticity coefficients of a large number of European countries, however, the authors conclude that, not only is there very little sign of any pattern emerging but that there seems little or no evidence for the view that the ...

On Defect Energy in Elasticity

Multidiscipline Modeling in Materials and Structures, 2006
In plane elasticity, a general expression for a mutual work difference integral (MWDI) derived from two stress fields is introduced. Once two physical stress fields are known beforehand, the relevant MWDI can be evaluated exactly from the coefficients in the complex potentials. A biaxial tension model for evaluating defect energy is introduced.

Elastic strain energy of inhomogeneous solids

Physical Review B, 1995
A two-phase elastically inhomogeneous coherent mixture of two phases with the transformation-induced crystal lattice misfit is considered under the loaded and unloaded conditions. It is assumed that the constituent phases particles, composing the mixture, have the structural pattern of an arbitrary morphology but the system is macroscopically ...

Energy demand elasticities and weather worldwide

Economia Politica, 2015
The purpose of this paper is to empirically estimate a model of aggregate residential and commercial energy demand elasticities, taking into account capital stock and climatic effects. We model a theoretically founded non-linear energy demand system, the generalized almost ideal, for the most important 117 countries in the world, which represent around

The energy of elastic defects: a distributional approach

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1994
Abstract An analysis of moving defects in homogeneous elastic materials is given in this paper. The laws of linear momentum, moment of momentum and energy are obtained in a distributional form. The motion of singularities gives rise to new terms in these balance laws.

On the energy of an elastic rod

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1981
Abstract It is shown that the general geometrically nonlinear problem of the three-dimensional theory of elasticity for a rod can be split into a nonlinear “one-dimensional” problem (one-dimensional theory of rods) and a linear “two-dimensional” problem. A number of constant “effective” elastic characteristics of the rod is in the equation of the one-

On the use of energy elasticities

Energy, 1979
Abstract The change in energy consumption associated with a change in economic activity, i.e. the energy elasticity, has been used as the single most significant parameter in forecasting energy consumption. It has been found that the change in elasticity with time reflects shifts in energy uses in the economy.

CdSe Nanoparticle Elasticity and Surface Energy

Nano Letters, 2009
The acoustic phonon modes of colloidal CdSe nanoparticles in solution (293 K) are passively measured by a third order ultrafast heterodyne cross-polarized transient grating measurement. Using the observed size-dependence of the acoustic phonon frequency, the elastic properties of the nanoparticles are determined.

Elastic energy of protein-DNA chimeras

Physical Review E, 2009
We present experimental measurements of the equilibrium elastic energy of protein-DNA chimeras, for two different sets of attachment points of the DNA "molecular spring" on the surface of the protein. Combining these with measurements of the enzyme's activity under stress and a mechanical model of the system, we determine how the elastic energy is ...
