RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Finite temperature elastic constants of paramagnetic materials within the disordered local moment picture from ab initio molecular dynamics calculations

open access: yes, 2016
We present a theoretical scheme to calculate the elastic constants of magnetic materials in the high-temperature paramagnetic state. Our approach is based on a combination of disordered local moments picture and ab initio molecular dynamics (DLM-MD ...

Enzymatic degradation of biopolymers in amorphous and molten states: mechanisms and applications

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This review explains how polymer morphology and thermal state shape enzymatic degradation pathways, comparing amorphous and molten biopolymer structures. By integrating structure–reactivity principles with insights from thermodynamics and enzyme engineering, it highlights mechanisms that enable efficient polymer breakdown.

Oxidation-induced changes in mechanical properties of silicon nitride ceramics [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The effect of oxidation on the room-temperature mechanical properties of four different silicon nitride ceramics is investigated. The strength and the elastic modulus of the whole material and the hardness, the fracture toughness and the elastic ...

Coefficient of restitution for elastic disks

open access: yes, 1998
We calculate the coefficient of restitution, $\epsilon$, starting from a microscopic model of elastic disks. The theory is shown to agree with the approach of Hertz in the quasistatic limit, but predicts inelastic collisions for finite relative ...

Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Poly(dimethylsiloxane) Elasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cross-linked polymers have unique and advantageous properties due to the infinite elastic chains. Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) belongs into a group of non-toxic, relatively inert and highly elastic polymers (elastomers).

Probing the mechanical properties of graphene using a corrugated elastic substrate

open access: yes, 2010
The exceptional mechanical properties of graphene have made it attractive for nano-mechanical devices and functional composite materials. Two key aspects of graphene's mechanical behavior are its elastic and adhesive properties.
