On raytracing in an elastic-anelastic medium

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 1991
AbstractIn this article, we investigate seismic wave propagation in a medium consisting of a stack of anelastic layers sandwiched between two half-spaces. The upper half-space is perfectly elastic, and the lower half-space is anelastic. The source is in the upper elastic half-space.

Stiffness Coefficients of Elastic Medium

Journal of the Geotechnical Engineering Division, 1982
Using the theory of elasticity, values of stiffness coefficients for vertical and horizontal modes are evaluated for cases for which solutions are not available. Three types of pressure distributions and three types of displacement conditions are considered.

Variational Problem on Equilibrium of an Elastic Medium Located in Elastic Shell

Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2002
Using variational methods the author establishes the global solvability of the problem about equilibrium of an elastic medium located in an elastic shell and, in the case of one-parametric force field, studies the bifurcation problem. The standard necessary condition for bifurcation is shown to be sufficient for the problem under consideration.

FREE VIBRATION OF ELASTIC MEDIUM

ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology, 1975
The dynamics of elastic m~dia has been studied in the past mainly from the wave propagation point of view (Ewing et ai, 1957). This is probably because of the importance of such problems in fields like geophysics, wherein one mostly considers layers of infinite length or layers of infinite depth.

On the Shock Wave in the Elastic Medium

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1952
As the result of the four conservation laws i. e. those of the conservation of mass momentum, energy and the area of the section of the tube of flow, we have obtained following conclusions for the shock wave induced in the elastic medium. 1 . When the wedge moved with the supersonic speed z , the angle between the shock wave and the direction of ...

Elastic activity of the chiral medium

Journal of Applied Physics, 1999
Chiral materials are noncentrosymmetric due to handedness in their microstructures. The elastic field behavior in a chiral medium is readily described herein using the governing equations and constitutive relations for noncentrosymmetric, isotropic micropolar materials.

Theory of elasticity of a multilayered medium

Journal of Elasticity, 1971
Though the basic equations of the linear theory of elasticity are well known, it is rather cumbersome to evaluate the exact state of stress and displacement for a multilayered medium. In this paper we discuss a formal solution based on integral transforms and matrix analysis.
