Absence of Two-Dimensional Bragg Glasses

open access: yes, 1998
The stability to dislocations of the elastic phase, or ``Bragg glass'', of a randomly pinned elastic medium in two dimensions is studied using the minimum-cost-flow algorithm for a disordered fully-packed loop model.

Modeling Fractures in a Poro-Elastic Medium

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2014
We present a fracture model in a poro-elastic medium. The model describes the fracture as a curve or surface according to the dimension, the width of the crack being included into the equation of flow in the fracture. The discretization uses mixed finite

Study the Surface Effect on the Buckling of Nanowires Embedded in Winkler–Pasternak Elastic Medium Based on a Nonlocal Theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanostructures, 2016
Nano structures such as nanowires, nanobeams and nanoplates have been investigated widely for their innovative properties. In this paper the buckling of nanowires surrounded in a Winkler - Pasternak elastic medium has been examined based on the nonlocal ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Radiation force of compressional plane waves on a sphere embedded in an elastic medium†

open access: yesForces in Mechanics, 2023
The aim of this work is to derive exact partial-wave series expressions for the radiation force of plane compressional progressive waves propagating inside an elastic medium and incident upon an embedded elastic sphere.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

The theory of longitudinal vibrations of a conical elastic body in an elastic medium

open access: yesAgricultural Science and Practice, 2016
Aim. To elaborate the theory of longitudinal vibrations of a solid elastic body with one fi xed end in the elastic medium. The example of such a body may be found in a sugar beet root in soil, the latter being elastic medium. Methods.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting
