Elastic Moduli of Avian Eggshell. [PDF]

open access: yesBiology (Basel), 2021
We analyze 700 freshly-laid eggs from 58 species (22 families and 13 orders) across three orders of magnitude in egg mass. We study the elastic moduli using three metrics: (i) effective Young’s modulus, EFEM, by a combined experimental and numerical method; (ii) elastic modulus, Enano, by nanoindentation, and (iii) theoretical Young’s modulus, Etheory.

Mechanically tunable conductive interpenetrating network hydrogels that mimic the elastic moduli of biological tissue. [PDF]

open access: yesNat Commun, 2018
Conductive and stretchable materials that match the elastic moduli of biological tissue (0.5–500 kPa) are desired for enhanced interfacial and mechanical stability.

Determination of the Elastic Moduli of a Single Cell Cultured on a Rigid Support by Force Microscopy. [PDF]

open access: yesBiophys J, 2018
The elastic response of a living cell is affected by its physiological state. This property provides mechanical fingerprints of a cell's dysfunctionality.

On the determination of elastic moduli of cells by AFM based indentation. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2017
The atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been widely used to measure the mechanical properties of biological cells through indentations. In most of existing studies, the cell is supposed to be linear elastic within the small strain regime when analyzing the

Variation of Nanostructures, Molecular Interactions, and Anisotropic Elastic Moduli of Lignocellulosic Cell Walls with Moisture. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2017
A combination of experimental, theoretical and numerical studies is used to investigate the variation of elastic moduli of lignocellulosic (bamboo) fiber cell walls with moisture content (MC).

Elastic moduli of permanently densified silica glasses. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2014
Modelling the mechanical response of silica glass is still challenging, due to the lack of knowledge concerning the elastic properties of intermediate states of densification.

Elastic moduli: a tool for understanding chemical bonding and thermal transport in thermoelectric materials.

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2022
The elastic behavior of a material can be a powerful tool to decipher thermal transport. In thermoelectrics, measuring the elastic moduli - directly tied to sound velocity - is critical to understand trends in lattice thermal conductivity, as well as ...

Broadband dynamic elastic moduli of honeycomb lattice materials: A generalized analytical approach

open access: yes, 2021
A generic analytical framework is proposed to obtain the dynamic elastic moduli of lattice materials under steady-state vibration conditions. The dynamic deformation behaviour of the individual beam elements of a lattice is distinct from the behaviour ...

Predicting densities and elastic moduli of SiO2-based glasses by machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials, 2019
Chemical design of SiO2-based glasses with high elastic moduli and low weight is of great interest. However, it is difficult to find a universal expression to predict the elastic moduli according to the glass composition before synthesis since the ...

Towards more realistic values of elastic moduli for volcano modelling

open access: yesJournal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2020
The accuracy of elastic analytical solutions and numerical models, widely used in volcanology to interpret surface ground deformation, depends heavily on the Young’s modulus chosen to represent the medium.
