Abstract In WDM networks using a fixed frequency grid, transmission rates can vary for different connections, leading to inefficient bandwidth utilization in optical fibers with lower-rate connections using wide frequency slots. In elastic optical networks (EONs), the frequency grid is made flexible, thereby improving the effective ...

Partial defragmentation in elastic optical networks
2014 16th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2014In elastic optical networks, the lightpaths setup and tear down processes may cause the so-called spectrum fragmentation issue, degrading spectrum utilization, increasing lightpath rejection ratio, and this is especially critical under dynamic traffic scenarios.

Transparent virtual network embedding in elastic optical networks
2016 IEEE 37th Sarnoff Symposium, 2016Network visualization in Elastic Optical Networks (EONs) utilizes the flexible spectral resources to map Virtual Networks (VN) requests onto the physical substrate network. The process of mapping the VN requests onto the physical substrate network is called Virtual Network Embedding (VNE) problem.
