Novel fragmentation-aware algorithms for multipath routing and spectrum assignment in elastic optical networks-space division multiplexing (EON-SDM)

Optical Fiber Technology, 2018
Abstract An innovative technology to expand transmission capacity of optical backbone networks and to add flexibility to conventional WDM networks is Elastic Optical Networks with Space Division Multiplexing (EON-SDM). In EON-SDM, connection requests can be established in a much efficient manner than WDM networks and even EON network without SDM ...

Autonomous Closed-Loop Operations to Ensure QoT Connections in SDN-controlled Elastic Optical Networks

Optical Fiber Communications Conference and Exhibition
This work presents an autonomous SDN controller for EONs, detailing closed-loop QoT management with telemetry, a QoT tool, and a Path Computation Server. Two recovery strategies for QoT-degraded services are proposed and numerically compared.

Blocking aware offline survivable path provisioning of connection requests in elastic optical networks

Int. J. Parallel Emergent Distributed Syst., 2023
Survivability of Elastic Optical Networks (EONs) from a link failure is an important problem. Shared Backup Path Protection (SBPP) is widely used for protection against a link failure.

AnalyticalBP: Analytical Model for Blocking Probabilities Considering Crosstalk-Avoided Approach in Spectrally-Spatially Elastic Optical Networks

IEEE Transactions on Communications
A well-known drawback of spectrally-spatially elastic optical networks (SS-EONs) is crosstalk, which increases blocking probability; evaluating blocking probability analytically is challenging due to additional constraints.

AnalyticalDF: Analytical Model for Blocking Probabilities Considering Spectrum Defragmentation in Spectrally-Spatially Elastic Optical Networks

IEEE Conference on Computer Communications
Recently, multi-core and multi-mode fibers (MCMMFs) have been considered to overcome physical limitations and increase transport capacity. They are combined with elastic optical networks (EONs) to form spectrally-spatially elastic optical networks (SS ...

Availability-Aware and Delay-Sensitive RAN Slicing Mapping Based on Deep Reinforcement Learning in Elastic Optical Networks

IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management
To ensure reliable network services, the link protection method is widely employed for light-path provision. However, it inevitably increases propagation delay due to different transmission distances between active and backup light-paths, leading to a ...

Multi-dimensional resource defragmentation (MDRD) based on cluster SDON controller (CSC) paradigm in spatial division multiplexing enabled elastic optical networks (SDM-EON)

2016 15th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2016
Cluster software defined optical networking controller (CSC) paradigm is exploited for multi-dimensional resource defragmentation (MDRD) in spatial division multiplexing enabled elastic optical networks. Experimental results show that spectral and spatial resources can be reorganized fast and effectively with cluster control technology.

PRODIGY+: a robust progressive upgrade approach for elastic optical networks

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking
Elastic optical networks (EONs) operating in the C-band have been widely deployed worldwide. However, two major technologies—multiband elastic optical networks (MB-EONs) and space division multiplexed elastic optical networks (SDM-EONs)—can significantly
