Elastic properties of liquid crystals [PDF]
The paper presents elastic properties of liquid crystals, especially their nematic phase. Anoutline of a development of theories describing these properties is given. The model describing liquidcrystal as continuous medium is formulated.

Analysis of Texture and Anisotropic Elastic Properties of Additively Manufactured Ni-Base Alloys
Additive manufacturing of metallic materials generates strong crystallographic textures, leading to anisotropic elastic properties on the macroscopic scale. The impact of the processing parameters on the resulting texture requires suitable techniques for

Elastic Properties of Viruses [PDF]
Viruses are compact biological nanoparticles whose elastic and dynamical properties are hardly known. Inelastic (Brillouin) light scattering was used to characterize these properties, from microcrystals of the Satellite Tobacco Mosaic Virus, a nearly spherical plant virus of 17-nm diameter. Longitudinal sound velocities in wet and dry Satellite Tobacco

Elastic properties of nanowires [PDF]
We present a model to study Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio of the composite material of amorphous nanowires. It is an extension of the model derived by two of us [da Fonseca and Galvão, Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 175502 (2004)] to study the elastic properties of amorphous nanosprings. The model is based on twisting and tensioning a straight nanowire and

Temperature-dependent elastic properties of DNA
Knowledge of the elastic properties, e.g., the persistence length or interphosphate distance, of single-stranded (ss) and double-stranded (ds) DNA under different experimental conditions is critical to characterizing molecular reactions studied with ...

Elastic properties of terbium [PDF]
The temperature dependence of the Young modulus along the crystallographic axes b and c (E(b) and E(c)), and the internal friction of a terbium single crystal have been measured. At 4.2 K, E(b) and E(c) are equal to 38 and 84.5 GPa, respectively. The lattice part of the Young modulus and the Debye temperature has been calculated.
