Elasticity Solution of Deep Beam Under Settlement of Supports
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1976The present study investigates the two-dimensional stresses and displacements in a finite rectangle whose one set of parallel edges is given a relative tangential displacement by means of rigidly attached planes. The other set of parallel edges is free from tractions. The problem is formulated in terms of a singular integral equation of the first kind,

Prediction of pile settlement in an elastic soil
Computers and Geotechnics, 2014Abstract This paper presents a simple regression to predict settlement of a single floating pile supported by a homogeneous elastic soil and subjected to a vertical load. The regression, which is calibrated by a finite element model, allows the direct computation of the pile length required for serviceability limit state design of deep foundations.

Settlement of Strip Load on Elastic-Plastic Soil
Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1968The gradual development of the yielded zone beneath a strip footing on an idealized elastic-plastic soil is analyzed. The corresponding stress and displacement fields and the accumulations of footing settlements after local shear failure has occurred is also shown.

Settlement Analysis of Embedded Foundation Resting on Elastic Soil
Pavement and Geotechnical Engineering for Transportation, 2013The paper first analyzes the embedment depth effect including Gibson effect, trench effect, side-wall contact effect, retaining wall effect and floating foundation effect. A new settlement calculation model for embedded foundation resting on elastic soil is presented.

Elastic Foundation Settlements on Sand Deposits
Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1987A method for computing the elastic settlement of a foundation on a sand deposit using the conventional elastic settlement, but adjusting the settlement influence factor as computed by Steinbrenner to a reduced influence depth is proposed. The reduced influence depth is based on observations of strain profiles and the Boussinesq stress profile.

Elastic Settlements of Circular Footings on Geosynthetic-Reinforced Soil
Geosynthetics International, 1999The interactions between soil and a buried circular geosynthetic reinforcement layer placed below a circular load are studied using elastic continuum theory with particular regard for the reinforcement effect in reducing surface settlements. To represent the displacement at the soil-inextensible geosynthetic reinforcement interface, the net radial ...

Elastic settlements under linear surface pressures on rectangular areas
International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2008AbstractThis paper presents the practical closed‐form solutions for elastic settlement under the linear full‐contact pressures on rectangular areas resting upon an elastic mass. The linear pressure distribution is mostly assumed in practice for the rectangular footing having biaxial bending. The equations presented here are determined by evaluating the

Elastic and creep settlements of rock fills
2005Rock fills are widely used to ensure a proper foundation ground for large industrial plants, airports and other structures where very strict tolerances are required for the magnitude of settlements, differential settlements and rotations. With these very strict requirements (allowable settlements within few centimeters) for the whole life time of the ...

Elastic settlement of arbitrarily shaped foundations embedded in half-space
Géotechnique, 1985The settlement of foundations under working loads which induce relatively small strains in the soil is frequently estimated in practice on the basis of results from the theory of elasticity. Despite its shortcomings in modelling actual soil behaviour, elastic theory may be quite useful especially in predicting immediate settlements on saturated clayey ...

Settlement Uncertainty Analysis for Continuous Spread Footing on Elastic Soil
Geotechnical and Geological Engineering, 2014In conventional design, continuous spread footings are always designed on the basis of their transverse behavior, where the natural variability of soil properties and any uncertainties in the geometrical and mechanical properties of the structure are usually not considered.
