Quantification of Atherosclerotic Plaque Elasticity Using Ultrasonic Texture Matching
The composition of an atherosclerotic plaque is a major determinant of its vulnerability, i.e. proneness to rupture. This paper proposes an ultrasonic texture matching method, which is shown to reflect the distribution of elastic modulus and is a ...

Label-free 3D visualization of cellular and tissue structures in intact muscle with second and third harmonic generation microscopy. [PDF]
Second and Third Harmonic Generation (SHG and THG) microscopy is based on optical effects which are induced by specific inherent physical properties of a specimen.

The elastic microstructure of various tissues
Previous work has indicated that a modified Quate-Lemons scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) is capable of measuring the acoustic propagation properties of sections of biological tissue. The lens is excited by an impulse, rather than a tone burst, and the undemodulated returning signal from the tissue is recorded.

Buckling of a growing tissue and the emergence of two-dimensional patterns
The process of biological growth and the associated generation of residual stress has previously been considered as a driving mechanism for tissue buckling and pattern selection in numerous areas of biology.
