Development and Preliminary In Vivo Study of 3D‐Printed Bioactive Glass Scaffolds with Trabecular Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the fabrication of trabecular bioactive glass scaffolds (composition “1d”: 46.1SiO2‐28.7CaO‐8.8MgO‐6.2P2O5‐5.7CaF2‐4.5Na2O wt%) through vat photopolymerization and the relevant results from mechanical testing and in vivo implantation procedures in rabbit femora, showing great promise for bone tissue engineering applications.

Dynamics of a goshawk population across half a century is driven by the variation of first‐year survival

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Population dynamics are driven by stochastic and density‐dependent processes acting on demographic rates. Individuals differ demographically, and to capture these differences, models of population dynamics are usually structured by age and stage, rarely ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Modelling of examinations of artery wall thickness changes

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2014
The developed solver of acoustic field was used for simulation of the artery wall thickness examination. It is capable of describing spatial and time-dependent distribution of an ultrasonic beam, that is emitted by a piezoelectric ring transducer and ...

Investigating the Effects of Build Height on Mechanical Behavior of Large‐Scale Laser Wire Directed Energy Deposited Nickel Titanium Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser wire directed energy deposition process was leveraged to fabricate large scale NiTi alloy wall. Evaluation of build‐height‐dependent tribo‐mechanical properties revealed significant differences in location specific sample characteristics. The middle region achieved optimal performance (superior wear resistance, balanced strength‐ductility ...
