On angled bounce-off impact of a drop impinging on a flowing soap film [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Small drops impinging angularly on thin flowing soap films frequently demonstrate the rare emergence of bulk elastic effects working in-tandem with the more common-place hydrodynamic interactions. Three collision regimes are observable: (a) drop piercing

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Principles and clinical application of ultrasound elastography for diffuse liver disease [PDF]

open access: yesUltrasonography, 2014
Accurate assessment of the degree of liver fibrosis is important for estimating prognosis and deciding on an appropriate course of treatment for cases of chronic liver disease (CLD) with various etiologies.

Acousto-electrical speckle pattern in Lorentz force electrical impedance tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ultrasound speckle is a granular texture pattern appearing in ultrasound imaging. It can be used to distinguish tissues and identify pathologies. Lorentz force electrical impedance tomography is an ultrasound-based medical imaging technique of the tissue

ANALYSIS OF ELASTICITY IN WOODS SUBMITTED TO THE STATIC BENDING TEST USING THE PARTICLE IMAGE VELOCIMETRY (PIV) TECHNIQUE [PDF]

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2018
ABSTRACT The most important parameter in terms of material mechanical behavior knowledge is the modulus of elasticity, being traditionally obtained through destructive tests. The objective of this study is the verification of the potential use of the particle image velocimetry technique (PIV) as a tool to obtain the modulus of elasticity in sawed wood ...

Phenomenological and Physically Based Modeling of Flow Stress and Strengthening Mechanism of Inconel 718

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nickel‐based alloys are widely used in high‐temperature applications due to their excellent mechanical strength and oxidation resistance. However, properties such as high‐temperature strength and pronounced work‐hardening make them difficult to machine.

Imaging of Shear Waves Induced by Lorentz Force in Soft Tissues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This study presents the first observation of elastic shear waves generated in soft solids using a dynamic electromagnetic field. The first and second experiments of this 5 study showed that Lorentz force can induce a displacement in a soft phantom and ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Characterization of vascular strain during in-vitro angioplasty with high-resolution ultrasound speckle tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background Ultrasound elasticity imaging provides biomechanical and elastic properties of vascular tissue, with the potential to distinguish between tissue motion and tissue strain.
