Elasticities. Elasticities of substitution

1999
• When f is a utility function, and x and y are goods, R yx is called the marginal rate of substitution (abbreviated MRS).

CONSTANT-ELASTICITY-OF-SUBSTITUTION PRODUCTION FUNCTION

Macroeconomic Dynamics, 2008
We consider endogenous changes of inputs from labor to capital in the production of intermediate goods, i.e., a form of mechanization. We derive complementary relationships between capital accumulation and mechanization by assuming a Cobb–Douglas production function for the production of final goods from intermediate goods.

Functional Separability and Partial Elasticities of Substitution

The Review of Economic Studies, 1975
Theorems 3 and 4 of the recent paper by Berndt and Christensen [1] relate weak and strong separability [14] of a production function to certain equality restrictions on the partial elasticities of substitution. Both theorems are local. Also, homotheticity of the production function is a condition of both theorems but is not included in either set of ...

Elasticities of Substitution and Complementarity: A Synthesis

Journal of Productivity Analysis, 2005
We derive the relationships between the net and gross elasticities of substitution and complementarity (i.e., the elasticities that refer either to the conditional or unconditional, direct or inverse demand system) in the general case of non-homothetic, variable-returns-to-scale technologies.

A Note on Elasticity of Substitution Functions

The Review of Economic Studies, 1976
Given a production function (or equivalently, a cost function), the Allen-Uzawa elasticity of substitution functions are uniquely determined. The converse, however, is not true. The purpose of this note is to characterize the class of production functions with identical sets of elasticity of substitution functions.
