The physical nature of elastic layers [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Elasticity, 1982
This paper gives an interpretation of the layers of elastic potentials, which are used to solve elastic boundary value problems of bodies and plates (extensional case). The layers appear as physical quantities on the boundary of the complement of the original body.

Physics-guided machine learning for 3-D quantitative quasi-static elasticity imaging

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2020
We present a 3D extension of the Autoprogressive Method (AutoP) for quantitative quasi-static ultrasonic elastography (QUSE) based on sparse sampling of force-displacement measurements.

Modern classical physics: optics, fluids, plasmas, elasticity, relativity, and statistical physics

Contemporary physics (Print), 2018
shown that neutron packets can be constructedwith aGaussian profile (like theGlauber coherent states in optics),minimizing the uncertainty relation of position andmomentum, and exhibiting Poissonian counting statistics (i.e., random spacing between ...

The Physical Structure of Elastic Colloids

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1932
Abstract 1. Some of the concepts included in the term “molecule” are briefly discussed and it is pointed out that the mechanical molecule is often the most important one in colloid systems. 2. The elastic properties of colloid systems require, and are produced by a group of four factors: (a) Long fibrous molecules.

Physics of cell elasticity, shape and adhesion

Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2005
We review recent theoretical work that analyzes experimental measurements of the shape, fluctuations and adhesion properties of biological cells. Particular emphasis is placed on the role of the cytoskeleton and cell elasticity and we contrast the shape and adhesion of elastic cells with fluid-filled vesicles. In red blood cells (RBC), the cytoskeleton

The Physical Properties of Elastic Fibers and Elastolysis

Connective Tissue Research, 1976
The effects of two forms of elastase on the Young's Modulus of elastic tissue have been studied. The monomeric, calcium poor form of the enzyme lowers the value of the Young's Modulus before an appreciable amount of protein is taken into solution. The polymeric, calcium rich enzyme on the other hand degrades the protein before reduction in Young's ...

Physical Insight into the Elastic Brewster's Angle

Proceedings, 2012
Light (EM) waves are transversely polarized and thus share properties with elastic shear waves. In particular, optical waves reflecting from an interface experience changes in their polarization. Brewster’s angle occurs for light reflecting from an interface such as air over a glass plate.
