Colossal Elastocaloric Effect in Ferroelastic Ni-Mn-Ti Alloys

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Energy-efficient and environment-friendly elastocaloric refrigeration, which is a promising replacement of the conventional vapor-compression refrigeration, requires extraordinary elastocaloric properties. Hitherto the largest elastocaloric effect is obtained in small-size films and wires of the prototype NiTi system.

Orientation dependence of elastocaloric effect in Ni50Mn30Ga20 single crystals

open access: yesJournal of Alloys and Compounds, 2021
Abstract In this study, the orientation dependence of the elastocaloric effect and superelasticity in Ni50Mn30Ga20 single crystals undergoing L21–10M/14M–L10 martensitic transformations was investigated. The maximum value of the adiabatic temperature change ΔTad at reverse stress-induced martensitic transformations was shown to weakly depends on the ...

Giant and stable elastocaloric effect induced by two-step martensitic transformation in a CoVTiFe superelastic alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
Optimizing mechanical robustness and cooling capacity is crucial for high-performance elastocaloric materials. Here, we introduced a reversible two-step martensitic transformation via Fe-doping to develop a new all-d-metal Co47V29Ti22.5Fe1.5 alloy with ...

Elastocaloric Cooling of Additive Manufactured Shape Memory Alloys with Large Latent Heat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The stress-induced martensitic phase transformation of shape memory alloys (SMAs) is the basis for elastocaloric cooling. Here we employ additive manufacturing to fabricate TiNi SMAs, and demonstrate compressive elastocaloric cooling in the TiNi rods ...

Effect of Composition on Martensitic Transformation Temperature, Latent Heat, and Crystalline Phase of Cu‐Al‐Mn Shape Memory Alloys

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Cu‐Al‐Mn alloys are promising materials for industrial applications because of their excellent workability and low transformation stress. In this work, Cu‐Al‐Mn alloys with compositions in the range of 64.8–78.23 at% Cu, 12.2–31.6 at% Al, and 0–17.87 at% Mn were synthesized via arc melting, and their martensitic transformation temperature and latent ...

Magneto‐Tunable Thermal Diode Based on Bulk Superconductor

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, Volume 4, Issue 12, December 2025.
A thermal diode based on bulk superconducting materials is developed. Using the sharp change in thermal conductivity and its temperature dependence of Pb near the superconducting transition, Pb–Al junction works as a thermal diode with thermal rectification ratio (TRR) of 1.75. The working temperature can be tuned by applied magnetic field.

Characterization of the temperature-dependent superelastic and elastocaloric effects of a NiTi tube under compression at 293–330 K

open access: yesAIP Advances
Comprehensive characterizations of the superelastic and elastocaloric effects of NiTi and NiTi-based shape memory alloys (SMA) in the operation temperature region are highly desirable for using them in elastocaloric coolers with a large temperature lift.
