Sensitivity of 3D Base‐Isolated Buildings to Individual Isolator Variability

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, Volume 55, Issue 11, Page 2653-2668, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Variability in elastomeric isolators arises from differences in rubber formulation and curing, leading to noticeable changes in stiffness and damping among nominally identical bearings. While most previous studies have examined global isolator variability associated with environmental or aging effects, individual isolator variability has ...

Actuation Strategies for Underwater Jet‐Propelled Soft Robots

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 6, Page 3868-3892, September 2026.
ABSTRACT This review article examines jet‐propulsion mechanisms in underwater soft robotic systems, focusing exclusively on physically fabricated and experimentally validated robots. Covering research published from 2013 to 2025, this study classifies and evaluates jet‐propulsion robots based on their actuation mechanisms.

Bionic Tactile Skins for Robotics: Fundamentals, Advances, and Future Prospects

open access: yesSmartSys, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Robotic bionic tactile skins (RBTSs), as crucial components of next‐generation robotic systems, have attracted significant attention in recent years. By enabling robots to achieve human‐like tactile perception and interact effectively with their surroundings, RBTSs play an essential role in enhancing robotic intelligence.

Low‐Velocity Impact Response and Damage Mechanisms of 3D Printed ASA‐Glass Fiber Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 16, Page 14926-14939, 20 August 2026.
ASA + GF 3D‐printed specimens: fabrication, impact test and anisotropic fracture under 0/90° and 45/−45° print orientations. ABSTRACT This study investigates the low velocity impact behavior and underlying damage mechanisms of 3D printed acrylonitrile styrene acrylate reinforced with short glass fibers (ASA + GF) composites.

Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 16, 19 August 2026.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.
