The Analysis of Multilayer Elastomeric Bearings

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1984
When a multilayer elastomeric bearing is sheared by end loads, the top and bottom surfaces of a typical plate are subjected to a shear stress distribution which causes bending of the plate. A new approach to the analysis of these bearings is presented which systematically takes into account the flexibility and subsequent warping of the plates.

Stability of Elastomeric Isolation Bearings

Structures 2001, 2001
Elastomeric isolation bearings are required to be stable at high shear strains, which occur during strong earthquakes. Hence, rigorous determination of the critical axial load during design is important. Currently the critical load is determined using small displacement Haringx theory and modified to account for large shear strains by an approximate ...

Stability of Laminated Elastomeric Bearings

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1990
Steellaminated elastomeric bearings are widely used in bridges. In order to impose the smallest possible force on the substructure, the bearing should have the smallest plan dimensions and the grea...

Behaviour of laminated elastomeric bearings

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 1997
Experimental work undertaken to investigate the behaviour of laminated elastomeric bridge bearings under compression and a combination of compression and shear or rotation has been reported on elsewhere. However, it is difficult to determine the state of stress within the bearings in terms of the applied forces or the interaction between the steel ...

Elastomeric Bearings: State‐of‐the‐Art

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1983
The paper describes the behavior of elastomeric bearings and presents a review of the properties of the elastomer. Results of theoretical analyses and experimental studies are also presented. Potential failure modes, important design criteria, design methods and specifications are described and compared, and their rationale is examined.

Evaluation of Laminated Circular Elastomeric Bearings

Journal of Bridge Engineering, 2007
This paper evaluates the behavior and performance of laminated circular elastomeric bearings and compares them to those of square and rectangular bearings. The study included an experimental evaluation and a nationwide survey of state Department of Transportations on the use and performance of circular bearings and bearings in general in their states ...
