Model for Viscous “Walking” of Elastomeric Bridge Bearings

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1998
Elastomeric bridge bearings have been occasionally observed to move out of their original position. A simple model for this gradual displacement, also known as walking, is developed. The model, through a regularized Coulomb law, incorporates viscous frictional interfaces between the bearing and the girder, abutment, or pier.

Behavior of Elastomeric Bridge Bearings: Computational Results

Journal of Bridge Engineering, 1998
A p-version, two-dimensional (2D) finite-element model incorporating both material and geometric nonlinearities and a consistent frictional contact algorithm is utilized to analyze elastomeric bridge bearings. Stresses and strains are examined and factors affecting them are discussed.

Tension Buckling in Multilayer Elastomeric Bearings

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 2003
The compression buckling of mutilayer elastomeric bearings which are widely used as vibration mounts, bridge bearings, and seismic isolators for buildings is well understood and is governed by theoretical analysis and confirmed by extensive experimental work. What is not well known is that the theoretical analysis that predicts the compression buckling

Elastomeric bearing sizing analysis Part 1: Spherical bearing

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 2018
Abstract This analysis covers rigorous development of theoretical equations (based on linear elasticity and the assumption of rigid shims) used in the following bearing sizing computer programs for general three-dimensional loading. Part 1: Spherical Single Pad, Spherical Multilayer.

MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS OF THE LAMINATED ELASTOMERIC BEARING

1966
Abstract : The purpose of this study was the establishment of analytical design procedures for laminated elastomeric bearings. This was approached with the application of the linear mathematical theory of elasticity and later with nonlinear large-deformation elasticity theory.

Elastomeric Sleeve Bearing Design

1972
It is shown that the experimentally determined deflectional behavior of certain elastomer-lined sleeve bearings under static radial loads can be modeled to some extent by the compressive behavior of flat elastomeric slabs. An equation for the thermal bearing-bore change is developed using the conventional theory for the thermoelasticity of ...
