Illegal use of elastrator rings on calves aged over seven days
Veterinary Record, 2011AS part of its scanning surveillance programme, the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) regional laboratory network regularly undertakes diagnostic postmortem examinations on calves. In addition to producing a report on its findings to the submitting veterinary practitioner and client, and the provision of diagnostic data to VIDA ...

Abstract Castration of ram lambs is a standard procedure to facilitate animal management, however all methods of castration used in the lamb industry are considered to be painful based on behavioural and physiological responses. This experiment compares an alternative method of ring castration (Callicrate WEE Bander) with a traditional method of ring

The Use of Elastrator Rings for Binding Crab Claws
Chesapeake Science, 1971Elastrator (castrator) rings can be used to bind the claws of blue crabs,Callinectes sapidus. The rings render the claw non-functional when used in conjunction with wooden blocks or dowels. The block is inserted between the fingers of the claw and the ring is placed over the claw proximal to the block.

The provision of analgesia at the time of marking has been adopted by the Australian sheep industry, but data on production benefits are lacking. In the current study, alternate lambs were provided with either meloxicam (non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drug [NSAID], n = 781) or no analgesia (NONE, n = 822) at the time of ring castration and tail ...

Mobility of Methane in Zeolite NaY between 100 and 250 K: A Quasi-elastic Neutron-Scattering Study
The Journal of Physical Chemistry, 1994The translational and rotational dynamics of methane in NaY zeolite have been studied by quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) at different temperatures and loadings. The QENS results reveal a marked temperature sensitivity. At 100 K, there is no migration of the methane from cage to cage on the 35-ps time scale of the experiment so that the time ...
