Biomechanical Model for Evaluation of Pediatric Upper Extremity Joint Dynamics During Wheelchair Mobility [PDF]
Pediatric manual wheelchair users (MWU) require high joint demands on their upper extremity (UE) during wheelchair mobility, leading them to be at risk of developing pain and pathology.

Elbow motion is essential for upper extremity function to position the hand in space. Unfortunately, the elbow joint is prone to stiffness following a multitude of traumatic and atraumatic etiologies. Elbow stiffness can be diagnosed with a complete history and physical exam, supplemented with appropriate imaging studies.

Enhancing the Performance of a Biomimetic Robotic Elbow-and-Forearm System Through Bionics-Inspired Optimization [PDF]
This paper delineates the formulation and verification of an innovative robotic forearm and elbow design, mirroring the intricate biomechanics of human skeletal and ligament systems. Conventional robotic models often undervalue the substantial function of soft tissues, leading to a compromise between compactness, safety, stability, and range of motion.

Engineering the Future of Restorative Clinical Peripheral Nerve Surgery
What if damaged nerves could regenerate more effectively? This review unveils cutting‐edge strategies to restore nerve function, from biomaterial scaffolds and bioactive molecules to living engineered tissues. By accelerating axonal regrowth, preserving Schwann cells, and enhancing connectivity, these approaches are reshaping nerve repair—offering new ...

Viruses in sanctuary chimpanzees across Africa
Abstract Infectious disease is a major concern for both wild and captive primate populations. Primate sanctuaries in Africa provide critical protection to thousands of wild‐born, orphan primates confiscated from the bushmeat and pet trades. However, uncertainty about the infectious agents these individuals potentially harbor has important implications ...

Structural and Stellar Population Properties vs. Bulge Types in Sloan Digital Sky Survey Central Galaxies [PDF]
This paper studies pseudo-bulges (P-bulges) and classical bulges (C-bulges) in Sloan Digital Sky Survey central galaxies using the new bulge indicator $\Delta\Sigma_1$, which measures relative central stellar-mass surface density within 1 kpc. We compare $\Delta\Sigma_1$ to the established bulge-type indicator $\Delta\langle\mu_e\rangle$ from Gadotti ...

Supramolecular Conductive Hydrogels With Homogeneous Ionic and Electronic Transport
Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) based conductive hydrogels have received great attention in bioelectronics on account of their tissue‐like mechanical properties. However, inhomogeneous morphologies of the conducting PEDOT phase limits their electrical and mechanical properties. Here, supramolecular hydrogels with self‐

Endostructural and periosteal growth of the human humerus
Abstract The growth and development of long bones are of considerable interests in the fields of comparative anatomy and palaeoanthropology, as evolutionary changes and adaptations to specific physical activity patterns are expected to be revealed during bone ontogeny.
