Elbow lameness in dogs of six years and older : arthroscopic and imaging findings of medial coronoid disease in 51 dogs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Objectives: To report on the frequency and distribution of lesions of the medial coronoid process in dogs of six years of age and older, and to describe the arthroscopic findings in the affected joints.

Hierarchical Artificial Muscle with Nonlinear Elasticity for Antagonistic and Cyclic Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We construct hierarchical muscles by plying nylon fibers around a heating wire. The hierarchical muscle shows a J‐shaped passive curve, which shows benefit in antagonistic muscle pair and work accumulation mechanism. We also develop a computational, first‐principle model to understand the physics of both active actuation stroke and passive J‐curve ...

Effects of Elbow Joint Posture and Skin Stretch Length on Kinesthetic Illusions Under Skin Stretch Alone or Combined With Tendon Vibration

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper investigates how “elbow joint posture” influences kinesthetic illusions with respect to skin stretch stimulation. The illusions are induced by skin stretch stimulation applied to the dorsal forearm skin around the elbow joint and

Parkinsonian Rigidity Shows Variable Properties Depending on the Elbow Joint Angle

open access: yesParkinson's Disease, 2013
Parkinsonian rigidity has been thought to be constant through a full range of joint angle. The aim of this study was to perform a detailed investigation of joint angle dependency of rigidity. We first measured muscle tone at the elbow joint in 20 healthy

Ultrasound-Assisted Posteromedial Portal Placement of the Elbow Joint to Prevent Ulnar Nerve Injury

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, 2017
Direct posterior and posterolateral portals are the standard portals used in posterior elbow arthroscopy. A posteromedial portal in the elbow is not recommended because of its proximity to the ulnar nerve.

Melioidosis: a localized osteomyelitis in a cat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Melioidosis is a zoonotic disease as a result of infection by Burkholderia pseudomallei. It is of significant public health concern due to its ubiquitous nature with high morbidity and mortality in humans and animals.

AI‐Assisted Self‐Powered Wearable Dual‐Mode Sensor With TENG and Stretchable Optical Fiber for Neurological Disorder Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This manuscript presents the WDMS platform, an AI‐assisted, self‐powered wearable dual‐mode sensor for tele‐neurology. It integrates a contact–separation TENG insole with stretchable polyurethane optical‐fiber strain sensors to synchronously track plantar pressure and lower‐limb muscle deformation.

Artificial Piezoelectric Interface Enables Ultrafast Interfacial Ion Kinetic for Highly‐Sensitive Piezoionic Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study proposes a piezoelectric interface modification strategy to amplify the piezoionic effect. The piezoelectric interface generates an intrinsic electric field, which not only drives rapid ion migration but also concentrates polarized ions on the interface. The flexible sensor delivers superior performance, such as a quick response rate, strong

Estimating elbow loading conditions through the motion behaviors of subchondral bone density during joint movements

open access: yesScientific Reports
Evaluating complicated stress across the elbow under joint motion remains difficult. Here, we aimed to evaluate the distribution of the subchondral bone density in the normal elbow bones and further characterize their spatial relationships during elbow ...

Distinct Biotypes of Visual Perception in Major Depressive Disorder

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a discover dataset (272 acute MDD patients), this work identifies a novel depression biotype characterized by impaired visual motion perception, using machine learning clustering. An independent dataset confirms the robustness of this biotype through cross‐validation and demonstrates its generalizability.
