Empagliflozin in the elderly

Glucose and sodium tubular reabsorption inhibitors, or gliflozins, are a new therapeutic class. Their novel mechanism of action involves inhibition of a glucose and Na+ reabsorption co-transporter in the renal proximal tubule. They reduce blood glucose levels by reducing renal glucose reabsorption.

Proteinuria in the Elderly

In a representative sample of 624 people, 65-84 years of age, from six regions of Croatia, Yugoslavia, proteinuria was investigated on the basis of certain medical characteristics. Established proteinuria was seen in 30.8% of females and 27.4% of males.
