Three Centuries of ENSO Variability Inferred From Muna, Sulawesi, Indonesia Teak δ18O: Limited Response to Radiative Forcing

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Abstract We present an annual resolution oxygen isotope anomaly (Δδ18 ${\Delta }{\delta }^{18}$Oc) record, derived from eight teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) tree ring‐dated δ18 ${\delta }^{18}$Oc series from Muna, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia (5.3° ${}^{\circ}$S, 123° ${}^{\circ}$E).

California Temperature Since 1520 CE Shows Interactions in Extremes of Heat, Drought, and Fire

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Abstract Summer maximum temperatures (Tmax ${T}_{\text{max}}$) in the Sierra Nevada have risen rapidly since the turn of the 20th century, especially above 1,500 m where trends in the south exceed 3°C century−1. To place this warming into context, we developed a 504‐year reconstruction of growing‐season (April–September) Tmax ${T}_{\text{max}}$ (1520 ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, Volume 20, Issue 3, Page 779-803, March 2026.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Developing Best Practices for Inclusion in fNIRS Research: Equity for Participants With Afro‐Textured Hair

open access: yesDevelopmental Psychobiology, Volume 68, Issue 2, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Functional near‐infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a popular optical neuroimaging method; however, participants with Afro‐textured (i.e., dark, coarse, curly) hair are often excluded due to difficulty obtaining sensor–scalp contact. Grounded in lived experience and sociocultural literature, we aimed to develop and evaluate culturally responsive ...

Body composition predicts poor outcomes and reveals immunometabolic dysfunction via single‐cell profiling in anti‐BCMA CAR T‐treated myeloma

open access: yesHemaSphere, Volume 10, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T‐cell therapy has transformed the treatment of relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM), yet outcomes remain heterogenous. The prognostic role of body composition in this context is unknown. We retrospectively analyzed 108 RRMM patients treated with anti‐B‐cell maturation antigen (BCMA) CAR T‐cell therapy.

The MetaboHealth Score Enhances Insulin Resistance Metabotyping for Targeted Fat Loss: The PERSON Study

open access: yesObesity, Volume 34, Issue 3, Page 550-564, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective We previously identified distinct muscle and liver insulin resistance (IR) metabotypes in middle‐aged and older adults. The PERSON study showed that a low‐fat, high‐protein, high‐fiber diet benefits the muscle IR group, while a high‐monounsaturated fatty acid diet benefits the liver IR group. We also developed the MetaboHealth score,

Human Dignity, Humiliation, and Torture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Modern human rights instruments ground human rights in the concept of human dignity, without providing an underlying theory of human dignity. This paper examines the central importance of human dignity, understood as not humiliating people, in ...

Ending Genocide and Creating Human Right: A Call to Leaders in Higher Education--Exploring the Visionary Leadership of Raphael Lemkin and Eleanor Roosevelt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
I first argue briefly that a basic course on human rights, now rarely taught in American universities, should be offered everywhere. I then describe the visionary leadership of Raphael Lemkin, who almost singlehandedly created the Convention on the ...
