Photocatalytic Generation of a Ground‐State Electron Donor Through Water Activation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
This study presents catalytically generated phosphine oxide radical anions, derived from commercial phosphines and water as potent single‐electron reductants capable of reducing electron‐rich aryl chlorides at potentials as low as −3.3 V (vs. SCE). Cyclic voltammetry studies and DFT calculations offer insights into these P‐based ground‐state electron ...

Photocatalytic Hydrogenation of Quinolines to Form 1,2,3,4‐Tetrahdyroquinolines Using Water as the Hydrogen Atom Donor

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A sequential process combining hydrogenation and a subsequent stereomutation is presented for trans selective hydrogenation of quinolines using water as the hydrogen atom source. Mechanistic studies reveal that the hydrogenation proceeds through a cascade process comprising an initial cis selective photocatalytic hydrogenation of the heteroarene core ...

Noradrenergic and cholinergic innervation of the normal human heart and changes associated with cardiomyopathy

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Autonomic nerves are crucial in cardiac function and pathology. However, data on the distribution of cholinergic and noradrenergic nerves in normal and pathologic human hearts is lacking. Nonfailing donor hearts were pressure‐perfusion fixed, imaged, and dissected. Left ventricular cardiomyopathy samples were also obtained.
