Reactivity‐Guided Janus Graphene With Asymmetric Interfacial Electrostatics for Tunable Charge Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Stepwise dual‐side functionalization creates covalent Janus graphene with chemically and electrostatically asymmetric interfaces. The resulting nonadditive surface‐potential response and pronounced charge‐transport modulation demonstrate a versatile route for tailoring the electronic properties of graphene.

Giant Anisotropic Spin Absorption in Chiral Hybrid Semiconductors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Researchers uncover that chiral hybrid organic–inorganic semiconductors absorb spin differently depending on its polarization direction. This anisotropic spin absorption is primarily driven by the local symmetry breaking within the layered structure.

Directional Confinement Governed Ion Transport for Efficient Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Structural anisotropy provides an effective means to regulate ion transport in polymer electrolytes. Directionally aligned channels formed by freeze‐drying provide continuous pathways for ion migration, enhancing ion mobility and simultaneously improving the strain and blocking force of ionic actuators.

Mechanoactive Biomaterials for Cell–Matrix Mechanotransduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract shows how individual triggers (force, light, or temperature) and combined optothermal or receptor‐targeted actuation induce material responses at the tissue, cellular, and receptor scales. Their spatial (global or focused) and temporal (continuous or cyclic) modulation determines the resulting mechanical output.

Over 95% Optical Reflectance From Structurally Modulated All‐Biopolymer Multilayers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new dense–porous design turns ordinary polysaccharides into highly reflective photonic multilayers. Alternating dense pectin and porous cellulose nanofiber layers create strong refractive‐index contrast without inorganic or synthetic polymers, enabling nearly perfect visible reflection, high near‐infrared reflection, broadband metallic‐like colors ...

Light‐Controlled Localized Delamination and Blistering of Azobenzene‐Containing Polymer Thin Films in an Aqueous Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
When exposed to light of a defined wavelength, the photoisomerization of azobenzene chromophores leads to polymer reorientation, generating stresses that result in solvent‐facilitated localized delamination of the film from the substrate. Additionally, blisters that form spontaneously when exposed to an aqueous environment can be manipulated via ...

Scalable Fabrication of Chemically Stabilized Gelatin Hydrogel Fibers by Thermal Drawing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Scalable processing of hydrogel fibers remains a major challenge. By coupling thermal drawing with Maillard chemistry, a transient viscous‐flow window is created that enables continuous fabrication of microstructured gelatin fibers tens of meters long, while continued in situ crosslinking during drawing stabilizes the fibers for physiological ...
