Electric Arc Furnace Processes
1997The electric arc furnace processing of oxide ceramics is a well-established and widely-used industrial technology. Raw materials are readily melted together by joule and radiant heating to form substantially large liquid volumes. These are refined if necessary with carbon and additions of metal scavenging agents such as iron, and the product is then ...

Electric Arc Behaviour in Steelmaking Arc Furnaces

Rocking indirect arc electric furnaces
Electrical Engineering, 1934The electric furnace of the rocking type with indirect arc has been developed to the point where it may be used not only For the melting of nonferrous metals but also in the production of castings of various types of iron and steel. Accurate control of the process is possible.

In this chapter, electric steelmaking is introduced with a short review: share, raw materials, operation, typical equipment, off-gas treatment, emissions. Electric-based steelmaking enjoys a much comfortable position than integrated classical blast furnace—oxygen steelmaking facilities, regarding greenhouse emissions.

Hydrothermal treatment of electric arc furnace dust
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2011In this study, ZnO crystals were fabricated from electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) after alkaline leaching, purification and hydrothermal treatment. The effects of temperature, duration, pH, and solid/liquid ratio on ZnO crystal morphology and size were investigated. Results show a high reaction temperature capable of accelerating the dissolution of ZnO

Structural ceramics containing electric arc furnace dust
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2013In the present work the stabilization of electric arc furnace dust EAFD waste in structural clay ceramics was investigated. EAFD was collected over eleven production days. The collected waste was characterized for its chemical composition by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy.

Electric arc furnace model in distribution systems
2014 IEEE Industry Application Society Annual Meeting, 2014This paper presents a new technique to characterize electrical arc furnaces through the measurement of electric power, stationary and transient states, and the imbalance of these systems. The nonstationary behavior of the voltage and current signals in electric arc furnaces is considered, and analysis techniques of power quality in the time domain are ...

The tapping of electric furnaces is a hot, physically demanding, and potentially dangerous job. Noise levels often exceed the OSHA limits. To improve the work environment as well as improve productivity, several electric furnaces in Japan worked together with the Tokyo Institute of Technology to develop remote controlled manipulators for tapping.

The 3-phase electric arc furnace
Electrical Engineering, 1933The 3-phase electric arc furnace has established itself definitely as an important industrial unit in the production of ferrous materials. With the efficiency of the arc furnace being increased, and with the overall cost of installation and operation now being comparable with that of an equivalent open hearth, an even more extensive application is ...
