Currents in bearings of induction motors of electric drives with semiconductor converter
2018 17th International Ural Conference on AC Electric Drives (ACED), 2018The most regular problem of electric drives with semiconductor system is drive electric engine's bearing assembly renny damage. The bearing currents bring a number of damages in drive electric engine. These currents can perform continuous action on the bearing assembly.

Abstract Premature failures associated with microstructural degradation, i.e. white etching cracks (WECS), are becoming commonplace as applications are requiring tribological components to operate under extreme conditions. Although the specific drivers of WECs are still debated, the failures are often found in applications where cyclic loading is ...

A Method to Determine the Critical Current Value of the Bearing Electrical Corrosion
2019 IEEE 3rd International Electrical and Energy Conference (CIEEC), 2019The bearing discharge is an extremely complex problem, which is the key in the study of the relationship between the high frequency bearing current and the bearing electrical corrosion. The multi-physics finite element calculation is adopted to analyze the bearing breakdown process.

Modeling and measurement of capacitive and inductive bearing current in electrical machines
2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP), 2017Bearing voltage is the votlage over bearings and end-to-end shaft voltage is the voltage between two ends of the machine shaft. They are all induced by inverter based systems and may cause severe bearing failures and electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems. In this paper a comprehensive high frequency (HF) model of an induction machine for electric

Fault Diagnosis on Bearings of Electric Motors by Estimating the Current Spectrum
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1994Abstract The current spectrum of a motor with a faulty bearing contains the rotation frequency and its higher harmonics as well as narrow sidebands produced by frequency and amplitude modulations. A physical model is developed to predict the current spectrum of an universal motor with a faulty bearing.

Minimizing electric bearing currents in adjustable speed drive systems
Conference Record of 1998 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference (Cat. No.98CH36219), 2002Electrical bearing currents have become of increasing interest in recent years due in part to the introduction of high speed switching technology employed in state-of-the-art adjustable speed drives (ASDs). High rates of change of ASD output voltage (dv/dt's), will cause transient currents to flow from motor windings to ground through stray ...

Damages on the lubricated surfaces in bearings under the influence of weak electrical currents
Science China Technological Sciences, 2013A special bearing tester was constructed to investigate the damage behavior on the lubricated surfaces in bearings with the passage of weak electrical currents as low as ∼1 mA. The results showed that when polar glycerine was used as the lubricant, many narrow and deep pits formed on the lubricated surfaces.

Study of shaft voltage & bearing currents in electrical machines
2012 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science, 2012Shaft voltage & bearing currents in electric motors are not new. Its presence is noticed probably after the invention of electric rotating machines which is confirmed by observing pitting in the bearing rubbing surfaces and changing the chemical composition of lubricating oil or grease used in the bearings.

High frequency modeling of bearing currents and shaft voltage on electrical motors
2005 International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems, 2005The paper proposes a general method to investigate the common mode high frequency current components flowing through electrical motors supplied by electronic converters, especially focusing on bearing currents. An innovative model is defined able to address a wide frequency range (50 kHz/3 MHz) for EMI/EMC issues.
