Devices for Prevention of Bearings Devaluation by Electric Current

2007 IEEE International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electric Machines, Power Electronics and Drives, 2007
Our target the prevention against bearing currents by use of brush on the motor shaft and insulated bearings is discussed in the paper. The investigations were realized on laboratory machines and also on machines in operation.

System electrical parameters and their effects on bearing currents

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1997
This paper examines AC motor shaft voltages and resulting bearing currents when operated under pulse width modulation (PWM) voltage source inverters. The paper reviews the electrical characteristics of bearings and motors that cause shaft voltages and bearing currents.

Minimizing electric bearing currents in adjustable speed drive systems

Conference Record of 1998 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference (Cat. No.98CH36219), 2002
Electrical bearing currents have become of increasing interest in recent years due in part to the introduction of high speed switching technology employed in state-of-the-art adjustable speed drives (ASDs). High rates of change of ASD output voltage (dv/dt's), will cause transient currents to flow from motor windings to ground through stray ...

Bearing Fault Prediction Using Current Signature Analysis in Electric Water Pump

2018 IEEE International Conference on Information and Automation for Sustainability (ICIAfS), 2018
This paper present an initial attempt to develop a simple algorithm for a device to predict the bearing fault in electric water pump using current signature. Bearing faults cause variations in the physical air gap of the rotating machine. It can modulate the air gap flux density and may vary the magnitude of harmonics of stator current.

Study of shaft voltage & bearing currents in electrical machines

2012 IEEE Students' Conference on Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science, 2012
Shaft voltage & bearing currents in electric motors are not new. Its presence is noticed probably after the invention of electric rotating machines which is confirmed by observing pitting in the bearing rubbing surfaces and changing the chemical composition of lubricating oil or grease used in the bearings.

Steady-state Thermal Analysis of the Contact in Bearings Exposed to Electrical Currents

IECON 2021 – 47th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2021
Electrical bearing currents, e.g. in inverted-fed electrical machines, may disturb the performance of the bearings. In this paper the steady-state temperature of the bearing surface at the electrical contact point between the balls and the raceway is derived in the mixed lubrication state.

Bearing Electrical Erosion Signal Detection Technique Based on Current Signal Analysis for Electric Motors

Journal of Tribology
Abstract In modern industries, enhancing the efficiency and performance of electric motors is a critical requirement. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) inverters utilized to enhance the energy efficiency of electric motors generate complex shaft voltages and bearing currents, leading to bearing electrical erosion.

LSTM Based Bearing Fault Diagnosis of Electrical Machines using Motor Current Signal

2019 18th IEEE International Conference On Machine Learning And Applications (ICMLA), 2019
Rolling element bearings are one of the most critical components of rotating machinery, with bearing faults amounting up to 50% of the faults in electrical machines. Therefore, the bearing fault diagnosis has attracted attention of many researchers. Typically, the bearing fault diagnosis is performed using vibration signals from the machine.

Modeling and measurement of capacitive and inductive bearing current in electrical machines

2017 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP), 2017
Bearing voltage is the votlage over bearings and end-to-end shaft voltage is the voltage between two ends of the machine shaft. They are all induced by inverter based systems and may cause severe bearing failures and electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems. In this paper a comprehensive high frequency (HF) model of an induction machine for electric
