This chapter describes an unconventional signalling mechanisms underlying fast, coherent network activity: inter-axonal electrical coupling. Based on experimental findings and computer models, electrical junctions between axons of pyramidal cells have been suggested to mediate antidromic action potentials.

Electric coupling in strongly-coupled magneto-inductive cable
2013 7th International Congress on Advanced Electromagnetic Materials in Microwaves and Optics, 2013Magneto-inductive (MI) waveguides are linear arrangements of magnetically coupled L-C resonators that can propagate RF electrical energy. At resonance, propagation loss is inversely proportional to the coupling coefficients of the elements and to their quality factors.

Agrin Converts Electrical Coupling to Chemical Coupling
Science's STKE, 2005Agrin is a proteoglycan secreted by nerves that is well known for its role in organizing the postsynaptic regions of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ). However, agrin is not limited to nerves that innervate muscle and is a widely expressed protein, suggesting additional roles in synaptic organization in the central and peripheral nervous ...

Electrical coupling in multi-array charge coupled devices
SPIE Proceedings, 2016Silicon based charge coupled device (CCD) performances have improved immensely over the years. Scientific community across the globe target challenging remote sensing applications with CCD as optical imaging detector. Over the years, both pixel count (from few hundreds to few tens of thousands) and line readout rate (from few kHz to few tens of kHz ...

Electric Coupling in Epileptogenesis
1996One of the hallmarks of epileptiform activity is neural synchrony. There are several putative mechanisms for creating neural synchrony in a neural network including the chemical synaptic actions of decreased inhibition or increased excitation, extracellular ionic and volume shifts, and changes in electric coupling.

Gravitoelectric-electric coupling via superconductivity
Foundations of Physics Letters, 1993Recently we demonstrated theoretically that the carriers of quantized angular momentum in superconductors are not the Cooper pairs but the lattice ions, which must execute coherent localized motion consistent with the phenomenon of superconductivity.

Electrical coupling between tunicate heart cells
Life Sciences, 1968Abstract Heart cells of the tunicate, Chelyosoma , were found to be electrically coupled. The coupling ratio in cells adjacent to the polarized cell was 40%. Electrical current generated by an impulse was observed to spread through an area of local conduction block caused by an overstretched condition.

Electrically Coupled Graded Index Metamaterial
2008 International Workshop on Antenna Technology: Small Antennas and Novel Metamaterials, 2008We have demonstrated that effective gradient index devices can be fabricated to collimate and steer microwave beams by designing the spatial profile of positive effective permittivity across the slab. Resonant losses in the devices is reduced dramatically by operating at frequency ranges far from the unit cell resonance, and substrate losses is reduced
