Electrical current measurements on polystyrene films

Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1974
Currents decaying with time according to a 1/t law were observed in polystyrene films when a direct voltage was applied. Upon voltage removal, discharge currents were recorded, equal in magnitude to the charge currents. The currents were strongly dependent on the texture of the edges of the evaporated gold electrodes.

Direct Current Electrical Measurements

2016
The physical quantities of interest in continuous current (DC) circuits are the voltage of nodes and the current flowing through branches. In addition, for the circuit analysis, the knowledge of the resistance value of its components is necessary. The instruments used to measure current intensity are the ammeters; those to measure voltage are the ...

Zeptoampere electric current measurements with molecular tagging

Chemical Physics, 2018
Abstract A novel method of measuring concentrations of ionized molecules in gases that enables detection of individual ionized molecules by means of tagging them with readily detectable nano-objects has been recently discovered and developed. The femtoampere detection level of this method has been demonstrated.

Measurements of Planetary Electric Currents

Nature, 1964
Theories of an electric current generated by the earth's magnetic field are presented. Preliminary measurements d of the current were undertaken, using telephone cables in the Pacific Ocean near Australia. Voltage at the ends of the cables, one end being earthed'' under the ocean, was measured.

Current Density Measurements in Atmospheric Electricity

Nature, 1967
IN 1929, Watson1 pointed out that very close to the surface of the Earth the atmospheric electric current, in normal fine weather field, is carried only by positive ions, so that the current density can be computed from where J is the density of the current from ionosphere to Earth, Es is the electric field at the surface, and λ+s is the conductivity ...

Electric current measurement using AMR sensor array

2009 International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation, 2009
Anisotropic magnetoresistive sensor can be used to measure DC and AC current by sensing the field near the conductor in a contactless way. In order to improve measurement accuracy, an analysis of the influence of the displacement of the examined wire is made.

Evaluating measurement uncertainty in electric current measurement in PQ determination

Eurocon 2013, 2013
The determination of power quality levels, through objective approach, is based on recordings of measurement information. For a more complete characterization of power quality parameters, the measurement process is required to include measurements of the alternating current as well, as specified in IEC 61000-4 series regulations "Electromagnetic ...

Measuring Electrical Current: The Roads Not Taken

The Physics Teacher, 2011
Recently I wrote about the standard Weston meter movement1,2 that is at the heart of all modern analogue current measurements. Now I will discuss other techniques used to measure electric current that, despite being based on valid physical principles, are largely lost in technological history.

Electrical measurements on soil with alternating currents

Institution of Electrical Engineers - Proceedings of the Wireless Section of the Institution, 1934
The electrical properties of the earth play an important part in many modern applications of physics and electrical engineering. In the early portion of this paper a summary is given of the published information on the electrical properties of soil for alternating currents at frequencies from 50 to nearly 200 million cycles per sec. Particular interest

Electric current measurement using fiber-optic curvature sensor

Optics and Lasers in Engineering, 2016
Abstract A novel fiber-optic curvature sensor, which can measure curvature directly, has been developed in recent years. The electric current measurements system based on fiber-optic curvature sensor and electromagnetic principle is developed. A fiber-optic curvature sensor is bonded to a thin-walled cantilever and two circular magnet targets with ...
