Enhanced Optogenetic Stimulation of Retinal Ganglion Cells With Assistive Electric Stimulation for Low Optical Power Artificial Vision

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering
High optical power of optogenetic stimulation may cause phototoxicity during chronic application. To lower the optical power, a hybrid approach which combines optogenetic and electric modalities has been proposed.

Direct electric stimulation to increase cerebrovascular function

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2015
Various conditions affecting the cerebral vasculature may lead to cumulative damage and thus deterioration of brain function, in what has been called vascular cognitive impairment (Gorelick et al., 2011).

Joule‐Assisted Nanotherapeutic Urethral Stent (JANUS) for Spatiotemporal Theragenerative Treatment of Urethral Strictures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

Conducting Polymer Microelectrode Arrays for Simultaneous Electrophysiology and Advanced Brain Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A flexible micro‐electrocorticography array with PEDOT:SS electrodes is shown to be compatible with ultra‐high magnetic field MRI up to 9.4 T. Multimodal brain monitoring is demonstrated by performing simultaneous blood oxygen level‐dependent functional MRI in parallel with electrophysiology.

Integrating electric field modeling and neuroimaging to explain inter-individual variability of tACS effects

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Electrical stimulation of the brain can have variable effects, perhaps because of individual differences in brain structure which produce differences in the electric fields.

WAND: A 128-channel, closed-loop, wireless artifact-free neuromodulation device [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Closed-loop neuromodulation systems aim to treat a variety of neurological conditions by dynamically delivering and adjusting therapeutic electrical stimulation in response to a patient's neural state, recorded in real-time. Existing systems are limited by low channel counts, lack of algorithmic flexibility, and distortion of recorded signals from ...

Electric field simulations for transcranial brain stimulation using FEM: an efficient implementation and error analysis

open access: yesJournal of Neural Engineering, 2019
Objective. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial electric stimulation (TES) modulate brain activity non-invasively by generating electric fields either by electromagnetic induction or by injecting currents via skin electrodes ...

Computational Neurostimulation: Characterization of electromagnetic fields during Spinal Cord Magnetic Stimulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Spinal Cord Magnetic Stimulation is able to change excitability and remodulate the spinal neuronal networks after Spinal Cord Injury. Clinical assessments allow the study of the changes in synaptic efficacy and behaviour after intervention. Nevertheless,

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.
