Structural Control of Metamaterial Oscillator Strength and Electric Field Enhancement at Terahertz Frequencies

open access: yes, 2014
The design of artificial nonlinear materials requires control over the internal resonant charge densities and local electric field distributions. We present a MM design with a structurally controllable oscillator strength and local electric field ...

Mapping the sensitivity of split ring resonators using a localized analyte [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Split ring resonator (SRR) based metamaterials have frequently been demonstrated for use as optical sensors of organic materials. This is made possible by matching the wavelength of the SRR plasmonic resonance with a molecular resonance of a specific ...

Current Tracking Adaptive Control of Brushless DC Motors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
In this paper, the current tracking for Brushless Direct Current motors is approached considering uncertainty in the parameters of the motor's model. An adaptive control scheme to compensate electrical parameters uncertainty is proposed without requiring any knowledge of the mechanical parameters.

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Modelling and assessment of the electric field strength caused by mobile phone to the human head [PDF]

open access: yesVojnosanitetski Pregled, 2016
Background/Aim. Electromagnetic field exposure is the one of the most important physical agents that actively affects live organisms and environment. Active use of mobile phones influences the increase of electromagnetic field radiation. The aim

Indentation size effect: an improved mechanistic model incorporating surface undulation and indenter tip irregularity

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Indentation size effect (ISE), in general, is observed in shallow indentation tests, which is manifested as an increase (NISE) or decrease (RISE) in hardness with penetration depth decreases. The complicated origin of ISE is dependent on multiple factors,

Dielectric Breakdown of a Mott Insulator

open access: yes, 2012
We study the nonequilibrium steady state of a Mott insulator coupled to a thermostat and driven by a constant electric field, starting from weak fields, until the dielectric breakdown, and beyond.

Dielectronic recombination of lithium-like Ni25+ ions - high resolution rate coefficients and influence of external crossed E and B fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Absolute dielectronic recombination (DR) rates for lithium-like Ni$^{25+}$($1s^2 2s$) ions were measured at high-energy resolution at the Heidelberg heavy-ion storage ring TSR. We studied the center-of-mass energy range 0--130 eV which covers all $\Delta

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...
