Tracking Battery Microstructural Degradation Through Directional Thermal Transport Signatures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In lithium‐ion batteries, heat conduction varies between the through‐plane and in‐plane directions because of the cell's layered structure. Therefore, cell degradation influences thermal conductivity in each direction uniquely due to detailed microstructural and compositional changes.

Spatially Regulated Silicon Clusters in Trimodal Composite Anodes for High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A trimodal anode architecture spatially regulates silicon clusters within confined interstitial environments formed by graphite and contorted hexabenzocoronene. This confinement suppresses silicon aggregation and localized stress while enabling efficient Li‐ion transport, achieving high‐capacity, stable lithium‐ion batteries.

Engineering a Fluorinated AlPO4 Interface: Toward High Initial Coulombic Efficiency and Stable Oxygen Redox in Li‐Rich Layered Oxide Cathodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a chemically incorporated fluorinated AlPO4 (AlPO4‐F) architecture that functions as a multifunctional “interfacial fortress” for Li‐rich layered oxides (LLOs). By modulating the surface potential to –32.16 mV, this architecture enriches Li+ concentration and repels detrimental electrolyte anions.

The potential of domestic electric vehicles to contribute to power system operation through vehicle to grid technology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The domestic use of electric vehicles (EVs) is expected to grow significantly over the next two decades. Wide scale use of EVs will have a significant impact on electricity loads and could risk of overstretching the power system if steps are not taken to
