Sunscreen Composed of Nanofiber with Enhanced UV Protection and Thermal Comfort for Human Skin

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A new type of sunscreen composed of nanofibers is presented that enhances UV scattering and reflection, in contrast to conventional sunscreens that rely on absorption agents to block UV radiation. This scattering‐based UV protection helps minimize thermal stress by reflecting UV energy.

Nature‐Inspired Functional Aerogel Fibers with Engineerable Core–Shell Morphology

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Nature‐inspired core–shell aerogel fibers are fabricated through coaxial wet‐spinning, which combines a polyimide shell with MXene core. The fibers exhibited absorption‐dominant EMI shielding, low thermal conductivity, and mechanical robustness, demonstrating multifunctional potential for wearable electronics and advanced smart textiles.

A Thermally Expandable Resin for the Volumetric Additive Manufacturing of Shape‐Memory Functional Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Volumetric additive manufacturing allows to print parts extremely fast, but is so far is limited by the build volume of the printers. The foaming materials presented here allow to expand printed parts up to 500% reaching densities of 0.16 g cm−3 as well as providing shape memory properties enabling the creation of lightweight, functional parts ...

When Cellulose Moves: Smart Sensors and Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights cellulose‐derived soft actuators alongside with cellulose‐based sensors. Emphasis is placed on their integration into multifunctional devices that couple sensing and actuation to mimic natural motion and adaptability. We also discuss the challenges of achieving robust, reversible, and multi‐stimuli‐responsive motion, and outline ...

Understanding and Circumventing Failure Mechanisms in Chalcogenide Optical Phase Change Material Ge2Sb2Se4Te

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
Chalcogenide optical PCMs have gathered interest for their potential in compact, non‐volatile optics and photonics. Free‐space PCM metasurfaces require new considerations from phase change memory that need to be addressed for reliable scale‐up. Several failure mechanisms pertaining to free‐space PCM devices and layout methods are isolated to prevent ...
